I have been disappointed by Clyne so far, but reckon he should now be ready to start delivering.

His first game was a shocker and his second not much better - but there was a clear improvement today. He has still got a fair way to go - but he is improving and that's they key. He also seemed much fitter today.

Really impressed by the strength of the Palace bench.

Some very good personnel not even making it.

The bloke hadn’t played a match in a year then unexpectedly got launched into action. He deserves a lot of credit not critsim.

Yes, and it's a shame that that's the other 'ism that football hasn't addressed - after years of good, competant service as an assistant referee at this level, it's about time she was given the central role. She's earned it!

You’re right but it won’t happen. Apparently you have to decide whether to be a ref or an assistant ref and you don’t ever then move to other role. So no Assistant Refs will ever be actual refs (in the Premier League that is)

Batshuayi is a deadly finisher but offers nothing else. Ayew is miles better and so is Benteke.

Hmmmm, but I'm not sure that was a choice that she was allowed to make. She referees in both the league and women's football at all levels (including internationals) so it seems it's just the Premier league that have a glass ceiling for women referees.

If it's to be broken one day, I hope that it's Sian that does it.

Wilf, Eze, Jairo, Andros, great attacking potential. Why cant we do that every week?
I also though Scott Dann was excellent and Clyne was 100% better than last week. Jeff Schlupp was very composed when he came on - a very experienced option off the bench.
Don't change the team Roy unless you have to - although Cahill seems to be coming back - so Dann will be sacrificed?
A great day and very happy!!

Dropping Dann for Cahill would be mad. There seems to be this idea Cahill is first choice. It is based only on his past achievements. A steady option if we have injuries but that’s it.

“Football is dead. Cricket is my number 1 now.”

Cricket has had its equivalent of VAR for years and works well because the laws are sensible. 90% of the criticism directed at VAR is actually misdirected. VAR upholds the laws, and it’s the laws that most people don’t like. The laws say you are offside if your arm is off. The laws say it’s handball if the ball hits your arm unintentionally. Change the laws, not VAR.
And by the way, if we did ditch VAR, imagine the outcry the next time we conceded a goal that was clearly offside, or conceded a penalty to an obvious dive or had a goal ruled out quite unfairly.

Broadly agree with this. Cricket and rugby both do a far better job with the use of video replays to decide things. They tweaked the laws and have explained things clearly.

Right now, whether they are right or wrong the referees in football are not allowed to explain why they made a decision, and VAR is not consistently being used, or the rules applied. The FA needs to change the rules to adapt to the times.

It’s taken a very long time to get it right in rugby. Mark Cueto’s try that the French TMO’s took 4 minutes to disallow is still a travesty. There was loads of controversy about how many phases refs should go back through to. There were lots of complaints about how many and how long refs took to review decisions.

Decisions are now very clinical with not much room for intention or interpretation. Much as the offside rulings and handballs have been harsh this season, they are consistent.

One of the problems is that the authorities haven’t persisted with rules for long enough for the public to come to terms with them.

It is not the FA but IFAB who establish the Laws of the game.
