Sørloth is ot an option for us, didn’t prove himself with us although I again bring into question cohesion between the top people at the club (Parish-Freedman-scours-Freedman-Hodgson (and Parish) And I again bring into question our ability to find such talent below £20mil and you’ve listed players who are not number 9’s or performing as number 9’s. Maxim I do like though. I also like the wrecking ball striker at wolves. Very strong players up top with pace and skill are preferable when we can’t supply the squad with several pricey different options. But us finding and signing them outside of the Prem? I look forward to that. Edited by Rudi Hedman (04 Mar 2020 11.45am)

I am not sure our No 9, who plays 17 is doing what a No 9 earning £130k a week should be doing. But I take your point. There are other clubs developing and buying No 9s though, most clubs have them.

I agree with that. Started off by a complete change in football strategy in FDB, 12 months after signing Benteke, then Roy a few months or 4 competitive games later who again doesn’t play to our £30 million striker on £130k per week’s strengths or uses. I agree with everyone that Benteke is shot to pieces and is now a lamppost who can’t do most of the basics but the powers that be share their responsibility for it. We’ll wait and see how we do signings players other than central defensive players.

We seem to be a great club for strikers to come and end their career! The injuries/form of some of our recent acquisitions is abysmal Wickham, Benteke, Sorloth and now Tosun. Tbh I'm over risking anything more than 10m on a striker. Cheap try hards seem to be the better strategy that works for us ala Ayew, Jerome, Chamakh, Lee, hell even AJ started out as that. I'd be happy to stick with that and invest in some quality elsewhere. The myth of buying a 20 goal striker is an expensive fruitless quest.

I wasn't excited by his signing, but his record prior to joining Everton suggested he could bring something to the table. You have to feel for the bloke as it seems unlikely he'll be seen at Palace again and it's clear Everton don't want him. For us the big concern is we now only have two fit strikers, one of whom has had a number of injuries in recent years. I hope in the summer we focus on getting someone younger and quicker as we need some more pace in the team.

The interesting thought is that although the goals aren´t flowing, Benteke has played better since Tosun arrived. I appreciate he has carried a number of injuries in recent times but having competition for his place appears to have made him up his game. Hopefully, with Tosun appearing finished for the season he doesn´t regress.
