One of the most fascinating 'leaks' was of the whats app group populated by many of the Blairites in the Labour Party in the aftermath of the 2017 election. Absolutely distraught about what Corybn achieved. And then a scary amount of them switching over the 'Peoples Vote' campaign leading to the defeat in 2019. An absolute stitch-up of genuine 'House of Cards' levels of political s***housery. Lefties in my definition do not need to be Corbynista extreme left

It's useless to align with EU tax rates if we can better them Yep, once the EU decided to aggressively respond to Brexit, there were two choices: hard or soft Brexit. Thanks to Cameron's filtering system of deliberately limiting the number of actual right wing conservatives within the Tory party as low as possible and selecting for and so maximising its left (who are just socially Lib Dems who like their house prices). The Tories were never that keen on hard brexit in the first place. The public gave them a mandate that most of them didn't want to carry out. If and when a hard Brexit line is taken we'll know whether it could succeed or not. Listening to the left is pointless as they wouldn't even recognise its success if it happened anyway....too busy sticking pins in their Tory dolls.

In a nutshell, the UK has not become more competitive since brexit, rather the opposite, it is now the UKs own burdensome rules and regulations that are contributing to our poor performance and lack of growth. Terra Firma Capital Partners Chairman and founder Guy Hands says the UK needs a post-Brexit bureaucratic and regulatory rollback to attract investment and encourage economic growth. "It's the British establishment which has managed to tie us all in knots, far more than the Europeans ever did'.

So it's in our own hands to untie the knots, something we could not do if we are in the EU.

I always knew that the British establishment, the civil servants would be far worse than the EU where we had forty years of experience and seamless trade. 'No-one treats you worse than your own'.

I could write a book on the stupidity I have personally suffered from at the hands of civil servants in the last 5 years. Stupidity that has cost me a lump sum of £10,000, a promised refund of £3,500 that was then refused because they made an "error" in their advice, and then another £500 annually, until my last day.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

I confess to not truly understanding the level of resistance in the British Establishment to us leaving. Sure, I expected them to throw a hissy fit but genuinely believed that given the nature of the referendum with each vote equally weighted and the incredible turn out, then they would acquiesce and fully get behind it. Instead, we get this. And in the civil servants defence, I never really expected much out of them to be honest, not holding much of a high opinion before (with notable exceptions). But to find out that the biggest enemy of Brexit has been the Conservative Party itself? The biggest eye-opener of all time. Incredible to witness what is going on with them now.

When the UK entered the EU we were nicknamed the “dirty man of Europe”. Tough regulation and enforcement helped change that narrative, but the sewage scandal, and our government and regulators’ inability to properly hold the polluting water industry to account, has brought that shameful name back. Leaving the EU just gave them licence to kill.
