Don’t they relegate Referee’s who have poor games? Thought he was disgraceful!!! Appeared as if he couldn't wait to send him off, bet he actually thought about giving a straight red after the first harmless jump, mind you the West Ham players involved didn't help.

TBF I think the ball was just slightly behind him, if Townsend could shoot with his right foot, that would have been the obvious thing to do. Thought we played well but 1 goal was never going to be enough. Pleased with point fuming about another poor ref display. Thought Moyes was excellent after game ( for once) There's been harsh critics of Benteke's miss in the last two games. He scored from a half chance. The tap in fell awkwardly for him an was no more than a half chance. He's now on 4 goals and 2 reds in his last 5 starts. I'm not convinced West Ham's goal was as good as people are making out. It was a well taken finish, but Kouyate should have tracked the cross and cut it out. Instead he just ended up ball watching.

I have to agree with the female commentator (despite her grating voice) that Coufal was excellent for WH and imo probably just deserved MOTM ahead of Andros. I was also struck by Roy wanting to keep an attacking threat by bringing on Ayew for Eze (also gives Eze a bit of a rest as we need him Saturday lunch time!). Also Schlupp for Townsend was a good move. Despite our backs-to-the-wall play in the last 20, teh final play of the game was a Palace corner! Edited by doombear (17 Dec 2020 8.52am) He had more then one at a time on him lol, but he never ever seems to be able to pass quickly first time, he makes it too easy because they know he will try and beat them four times and as such they will put five players on him and that's that. What concerns me more though is our inability to defend crosses, they scored last night because no one even tried to block that cross.

Yes, our defending has gone down the pan we encourage teams to flipping cross the ball, Liverpool will be salivating themselves to death.

I also noticed Eze, for whatever reason, was somewhere around the penalty area when the cross came in - certainly nowhere near where the right back seemed to have loads of time to measure his cross.

Credit where its due, that was a good performance. There were improvements to be made though. We gave Bowen way too much room on the right. Where was PVA? Think I ony ever saw him jn attack. All night Bowen was allowed to put in cross after cross. Pva should have been picking him up. May have stopped their goal? For all of Benteke's improvement, he still needs to make more runs into the box. That ball across the box the Eze put along the floor early on, he should be all over that. Zaha had one of those nights where too often he tried to do everything himself. On a few occasions he should have passed to a better placed teammate. Instead of twisting and turning into defenders. Saying that, thought Coufal blatently blocked him off on a couple of occasions, once in the box. We're not used to playing against 11 men behind the ball, and trying to pick our way through. We nearly managed it on a few occasions. Really promising performance.

Ref was a total c***. First, he looks like Sacha Baron Cohen. Second, there were no dirty or even hard fouls in the game, and yet he insisted on trying to call fouls and give yellows for "infractions" that not even West Ham was complaining about. Both of Benteke's yellows, the opponent didn't react angrily, or complain at all. I think they were honestly shocked that they were yellows. Aside from that, I thought it was one of the best games we've played all season. For the first time ever, we bossed West Ham in the first half, had more possession, controlled the ball better, passed better, and generated more chances. They got a fluke goal, then the ref ruined the game by sending Benteke off. I'm happy enough with a draw given the circumstances. If we play like that from now on, we will easily be safe. To be fair their goal was absolutely class and whilst rather extraordinary it was certainly not a fluke.

It's a rare thing indeed when either Benteke or Haller score. But both of them? In the same game? In the insurance industry, that'd be called a Black Swan event.

We don’t need that warped perspective along to say how the ref was right and both yellows were justified

I would've taken a point gladly before the game and would've bitten your arm off after the sending off. If you’d of done that to benteke he wouldn’t of been sent off in the first place
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Like others, the starting line up surprised me. But Ward, Dann and Townsend all rose to the challenge - I'm not seeing a ' lost dressing room ' as somebody recently claimed. An excellent first half should have seen us ahead by more than one goal. At 1-1 it could have gone either way and then of course Benteke's red meant we had to hold what we had. Despite the gushings of ' Arry, I thought Eze had a pretty average game...ran up too many blind alleys and his passing was poor. But he and Wilf keep defenders occupied with their movement, and with a rejuvenated Benteke, we look dangerous going forward. He will be missed on Saturday. Oh, and well done to David Moyes for an honest appraisal of the game and in particular the red card. Agree with this but I do feel that part of the reason(s) were his lack of options and the players around him. As we improve the quality of team, Eze and his undoubted ability will benefit greatly because he clearly has the potential to be a cut above. He still has the flashes of brilliance and incisive defence splitting passes, we just need him to work on and improve some of the weaker parts of his game, which I am sure he will do.
