I had a conversation with an A.Villa supporter the other night who was incredulous that I was showing concerns over our prospects.

We gain draws, pick up wins here and there on the back of abject performances and at the end of the day this might not be enough.

At the weekend Burnley beat Leicester, I would have no faith that we could emulate this result.Last night Bournemouth scored 3 to beat Brighton - don't think too many supporters would bet on us to actually score 3 goals in a game and of course we failed to beat Brighton at home.A.Villa came from behind to beat Watford and Newcastle came from 2 goals behind to gain a very commendable draw at Everton. I accept we came from behind to beat W.Ham but at a time when they were in the doldrums under Pellegrini. In general terms I and many others I suspect have precious little faith that we have the ability to turn a game on it's head as others have done.

Rubbish, we are 4th in the league for points gained from losing positions.
Our problem is that we start games very poorly. Yesterday we were never in the game at all but actually only conceded from two shots from outside the box.

That may be so, however as I mentioned I could never envisage us turning around a 2 goal deficit at Everton or scoring 3 goals at home as Bournemouth did against Brighton.Or indeed coming from behind to beat Leicester as Burnley did at the weekend.
We might have turned losses into draws but we might need greater heroics as the season unfolds.

Just to add,Brighton, led by their famous scout master Potter, who has recently had his contract extended to 2026,are now firmly in the relegation mix, being just two points above the drop zone, even though they are playing a good to look at expansive style, but are unable to get a vital win and are five points behind ourselves, thank god!!

As I mentioned before on HOL, Brighton at this juncture last season were 13th on 26 pts.At present they are 15th on 25 pts.
I have been reading that some Brighton supporters are critical of Potter and want him removed but alas I don't know the depth of any opposition to the manager.
Maybe it's just a handful of wearisome minnows.

A lot of spectators might not have noticed the reason Wilf was annoyed with Ward-Sprout. I was in the main stand and towards the end of the first half Sprout was either pinching of pulling the waistband of Wilf's shorts. Wilf keep knocking his hand away but he kept on doing it. This was when the action was in the Palace box and Wilf and Sprout were in Saints half. The half time whistle went and that was when Wilf had ago at him.
Unfortunately Wilf hasn't learnt the lesson of last year and in subsequent games. Best to laugh in their face and get on with the game. Teams all know how to wind him up.

Man united away, losing at city and got a draw..
Bournemouth were the worst team I’ve seen at Palace in years, Norwich are pony (take away the Center forward and the fella with the Alice band and they’d be on 4 points.
They 2 and one other (not us are gone)

Once again we started so poorly. We go into our shell, allow the opposition to have the ball and they are able to make passes, get into their stride and dictate the tempo.
They get onto the front foot striaght away.

It is almost as though we are so petrified of conceding an early goal that we drop back in numbers, pay the opposition far too much respect and if by chance we gain possession we just don't have the movement to create anything as unlike us the opponents engage our players and don't allow us the space we afford them.

It really is a dreadful watch and I fear more of the same next season if we remain in the PL under the same ownership and management.

Spot on. They had just come off a back of throwing away a 2-0 advantage at home to lose. We should of been in attack mode from the off, pushing them back. Whilst we are a good counter attacking team, we really should not be sitting back against the lower teams at home, conceding 70% possession. Bigger teams perhaps. Last night was almost a carbon copy of Citeh at home earlier in the season. In fact we had 2 shots on target that game !! No team will be frightened of us when we play at home if we continue in this manner.

are people still upset? we lost to 2 class goals...doesnt happen often.

we were due a loss after 4 draws, 2 against teams much better than us.

onwards & upwards

We have only won 2 of our last 8 home PL games and of course were beaten at home to Derby in the FA Cup.

Last night we were absolutely dire, never laid a glove on them and being at home and not having a shot on target or a single corner is nothing short of a disgrace.I still have hot-pig fury rampant in my soul.

Sadly that will not count for nothing, if we do not have enough points come May to stay up, at the moment this is still a possibility!

I seem to recall you saying similar when Sam was in charge. Or maybe not.

And I don’t think it’s the goals that are being complained about, more the utter shower of s***e we are as a coherent attacking side, especially at home.

Absolutely.

I sense a feeling of unease amongst our supporters who until quite recently concluded that survival was a foregone conclusion.A glance at our fixtures towards the end of the season, I suspect fills many with a real sense of dread and foreboding.
