I hope you didn't threaten him with your zimmer frame? I spoke to a Brighton mate yesterday, a more civilised conversation, he acknowledged our defensive qualities and admitted that whilst they had the lion's share of the game Brighton could have lost it in the last 20 minutes. Thankfully I am not in need of a Zimmer frame! Indeed a far more civilised conversation than I had last night. An excellent summing up by your chum.

Last night when I was out with my wife I had a contretemps with a Brighton braggart much to the chagrin of the dear lady. The temulent cur was in conversation with chaps who were also in an advanced state of refreshment and was being highly critical of our team, ground, supporters using a word, the alternative to which is "Excreta". The diatribe continued and I intervened only to be accused of listening in to his conversation when he had a voice like a foghorn and I told the oaf that if he didn't wish to be heard by all and sundry he should "Pipe down" and not inflict his thoughts on those who perhaps ventured out for a quiet and civilised night. Rest assured, I defended our team with vim and vigour and dismissed his piffle with high-decibel fulmination.I am certainly not a reed bending to the storm wind and I suspect he formed this view in a short timescale. The chap was a varmint and no threat to Mensa. I will have to buy my dear wife a bunch of flowers as she had to endure me rearing up akin to a dray horse and getting involved in a heated spat when we were out enjoying a tipple. Sums up the arrogance of a lot of their fan base. If we were/are s*** why did they not beat us? Why do we consistantly finish above them?

He was just a contemptible popinjay, with a voice raised akin to an outraged panto dame, spitting out verbal paraffin in the direction of our club. He thought he was on safe ground given the location of the establishment but my strident intervention left him in no doubt that he was on enemy territory. We can all be critical of other clubs but the belicose diatribe coated with gargantuan helpings of vitriol led me to challenge his hogwash with vim and vigour. Against Bournemouth we had Sakho back, Townsend and Wilf were on the wings and PvA was in good attacking form. For 20 minutes we took the game to them and we seemed to be carrying on from where we left off against Burnley with a more attacking approach. Since Sakho was sent off we have literally seen the team slowly picked off one by one and without adequate replacements in the squad we have had to dig in for results and our performances have become hard to watch. With a fully fit team our game is about containing the opposition and then breaking quickly down the wings. Without PvA, Schlupp or Townsend that removes a huge part of our attacking threat with it nearly all focused on Wilf producing something. We should never have gone into this season without additional wide players as back up (either full backs, wingers, or ideally both) and everyone from the manager to the fans could see that. I have seen some of our worst performances in the PL this season from an entertainment perspective, but due to Hodgson and Lewington's methodical preparation we have frustrated many teams and remarkably are still on course for our highest ever points tally. Imagine if Roy had been given players he needed? For all Brighton's nice football, we carried more goal threat in the last 20 minutes than they did in the preceding 70 minutes (goal aside) and this is the Roy way this season: make it into a 20 minute game with Zaha seemingly reserving his energy for the end of games (how often does he get his goals in the final quarter? It seems a lot to me). A fully-fit Palace team would definitely have provided more of a game against Brighton. Let's sign some bloody players and turn them over at the Amex.

When the team was announced I concluded that I would be happy with a point. At the end of the game I was content with the point. Edited by Willo (19 Dec 2019 2.43pm)

As someone else said - 8 points from the last 12 - 1 goal conceded and all the time players dropping like nine pins - pretty bloody excellent in my opinion!

I take my hat off to Willo when he reported: He should be in politics (I think he is actually) because to defend the rubbish we played against Brighton took a lot of balls. Apart from the last 10 minutes I felt ashamed, this was not football, and I was embarrassed to watch it. I know we are injury stricken but if it were not for a heroic display by Tomkins we would have been humiliated. Brighton, on the other hand, looked like a team and I expect them to finish above us - although it hurts to say so.

It was one game where they probably played at their peak and we with all our injuries did not. We got a lucky point but football is often like that. Remember the play-off. We were extremely lucky to get a 0-0 at home with Zaha in Wayne Bridge’s pocket. Then the second game...........!! We have picked up a very useful two points in the last two. That said, we still need more than just Wilf.

I don't believe that those who know me would assert that I have a dearth of intestinal fortitude. Apropos our contretemps, my defence of our club and team was widespread, not just confined to the game, repudiating some of the slurs this balloon-bellied blowhard was spouting with the volume turned up.Rest assured I refrained from any profane language. I was certainly obstreperousness made flesh and bone and he was reduced to a pile of cindered rags.

Classic Willo, quite wonderful. Thank you very much, but alas to my miniscule mind I have never been "Classic" in any shape or form.

It was a brilliant defensive display hence Brighton only had three reasonable opportunities from their seventy min performance, the build up to their goal had to be brilliant to get us (quite similar to Man.C and others) football is also about defending we would be where Watford are if we didn't have Hodgson ..he as we realise and understand our problems up top and Mr Hodgson has taken the necessary precautions and actions to see we stay tight and organised, we are very light all over at the moment especially moving forward towards and through the midfield so thank the lord Mayer woke up and actually showed what he could do when he came on, we need to look at the positives.
