I'm in the disappointed with the window brigade, but mainly because we are a Zabaleta challenge on Wilf, Andros, Luka away from a severe dent to our chances.
Palace are like many in this league, just making up the numbers, like it or not, it's a fact. The only chance we have of challenging is if an Abramovich comes in for us. Sadly though because of FFP rules or as they should be called, keep the status quo rules, that is very unlikely.
We have no real chance, bar that one rare season of winning anything. Success to teams like us is staying up and a cup run every 5 years. At the moment like other clubs we have a different manager every season approach, which has so far worked. Now no one on here has a crystal ball and can guarantee that if Pulis was still here we'd be doing any better or if Pardew had stayed we'd be down. If Sam had stayed who knows how we'd be doing?
Now Parish takes a lot of hits for the walk outs, but if it was my club and I wasn't happy with the transfer targets or style of football, I'd definitely do something about it and because everyone on here has big opinions and believe they are right, you all would do the same. Don't argue.
Now because no one has a crystal ball we don't know our buying or wage budget and we sure as hell don't know what happened in any negotiations. The fact we wanted a loan deal for Amadou and we held the keeper over till the Summer suggests maybe we couldn't go any higher, I don't know? Plus selling a place on our bench to a player playing regularly can't be easy. Getting a proven quality starter in this window is also difficult. We seriously lucked out with Luka in my opinion.
So slagging off anyone at the club for all their efforts this month, especially when they are doing the best they can seems very churlish to me. If money was no object I'm sure we'd have got all we wanted, but you can't spend over what you believe is right. One Jordon Mutch scenario is too many, why risk adding to it? Perspective is needed and personally I don't think any of the bottom 10 had great windows.
Saying all that, I really, really wanted a new no.1 keeper.

Indeed.

Ordure has been heaped on Parish and Freedman without anyone knowing all the facts about the complex, convoluted and protracted discussions and the sheer frustrations these can cause.

Without a doubt the club have worked like trojans to secure targets but as in life you don't always get what you want. The Recruitment team do NOT just burst into life during the 'Window' - a great deal of effort is expended before the 'Window' opens but this is just not recognised or appreciated.Supporters can be critical of course but there are often good reasons why more signings haven't come to fruition.

My summing up - we are going to have to rely on the established players to keep us up and pray we don't get any more injuries

Pretty much what I overheard someone say today.

His view is that we have just bought unknown 'Cover' players who have only played in lesser leagues and at the end of the day might not be good enough in a tense relegation battle in the rarified atmosphere of the PL.Suffice to say he wasn't impressed !

Okay.... So....

Maybe I should have elaborated (as I have obviously vexed you!!!)

The need to cover certain areas of the pitch vs who we released vs who we brought in...

RLC - 100% great signing as with Riedewald.
Sakho already part of last years squad so secured but not moving forward on numbers.
Tim - Cover or competition for Ward.

Out:

Campbell
Flamini
Ledley
Fryers
Mandanda

Long Term injuries:

Papa
Wickham

So we lost or could not pick 7 (including only having 2 keepers and 1 forward)

Maths aside most would agree we did not have great depth in certain areas.

Ian Holloway... er no.

Please read the WHOLE post... lack of activity in the summer....!

FOUR signings in the Summer.
THREE last January (not counting SAKHO).
THREE now.
Total TEN.
Are you Ian Holloway. ?

Maybe one or two of these players will come good. I wouldn't bet on it with our past record though. Only established players seem to have come in and done adequately. Some of them have been pretty poor too. The last 'unknown' I can remember coming good is Ian Wright. Ward has been decent and wasn't much money - that's about it. Seems he is off to wherever Pulis is at the end of the season anyway.

Of these only one was worth keeping, and he would have been a squad player at best (Campbell).

We wouldn't be in a better situation now with Joe Ledley as our midfield cover.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

Have you heard of Bolasie and Jedinak, both signed by Freeman, who just happens to be instrumental in our recent signings.

We are only a keeper away from it being a decent enough window. We might have to pick up someone on a free transfer to tide us over till the end of the season should we get any goalkeeper injuries.

I think what has happened for us is a bit of reality this window.Obviously I would have liked more players coming in this window and for those coming in to have been better known however we are not able to. Purchasing players like Benteke and Sakho has made us supporters expect that every window. If you ignore the cash rich clubs such as Man city and look at other sides purchases this window many have broken their transfer records and they have not spent the money we spent for Benteke. So we have a transfer record signing similar to Everton and Spurs, Both clubs with much more financial muscle. In retrospect would we have been better getting players in 10-20 million bracket? Certainly we may have had better squad depth. I think we were trying to get 2 strikers over the line yesterday but WH poached one, remember Moyes was once manager there so I am sure that helped. Lille messed us about and I suspect Amadou will come in summer possibly at a lower price. GK on a free in summer so we hope no injuries to WH or JS

It is a bad window ...as always?.
Let us just hope Roy and the Staff can get us trough the storms coming up!
Once again SP is to slow with transfer business and that guy never learns it seemes.
WE got Benteke and Sakho and those whee expencive deals for a "little club" like ours. so we have to get used to live in limbo land.
Next window is at summer and maybe some of you guy can camp outside his office with posters that we need to get players in NOW rather then later.
When this thing happens at every window,,, something is clearly wrong. But he got the final word though unless someone is holding him by his ears,,,, wonder though?

Agree 100%. The purchases this transfer window certainly have one eye on the future rather than the hear and now.
