We're losing tens of thousands of teachers a year and applications for training have also fallen I believe? *source: [Link] How was it done before? The current situation is entirely down to political will and you talk as if this country can't run its own institutions. This country ran institutions for decades before....you tually ignore this. I am a teacher, and where the profession is leaking experienced staff there are plenty of idealistic sados willing to enter the profession.

Political will. You don't deal with the real issues.

See EU thread RE Amber Rudd effectively saying immigration won't come down post brexit. 2. Most of those 'idealistic saddos' (your words not mine) only last about 3 years before burn out.

So how would this Utopia cope with an ever-increasing ageing population and the need to keep a strong economy for tax revenue purposes to upkeep public services? Political will of the kind you want belongs to the far-right and we all know how constructive they are once they get their grubby mitts on a bit of power. Let reality bite you. It won't hurt.

Who cares what Rudd thinks....it's my moan. As for the teaching....you're right of course...but it doesn't stop them coming does it?....That's what holds up the whole system....If they realised what they were walking into the whole deck of cards would fall and something would have to be done. But I'm more likely to get a w*** from Taylor Swift. Edited by Stirlingsays (27 Feb 2017 2.19pm)

The 'ageing population equals economic disaster crap' has been a lie told by the non critical for decades.....Eeerrr...have you heard about a country called Japan? It is richer than us....has a higher standard of living than us....It's population say they are happier than us......It doesn't allow easy immigration...bloody hard to become Japanese....Being Japanese actually means something to them. Egalitarians are at a minimum there I'd imagine. It has an ageing population had this disastrous economic effect you talk of.....Eeerrr no. Check out the interest rates on Japanese debt....Start thinking critically and update your arguments.

Older people are revered in Japan and looked after by family very well mostly so state dependency is less. And my Japanese brother-in-law would dispute many of your points as I know what his working life was like back in Tokyo. Tough. Very tough. As it is for millions and millions like him. Stress is extremely high. Japan's economy has been in the doldrums for decades now. Do keep up. Oh, and if the Japanese needed millions of foreign workers to prop up their economy do you honestly think they would still have 'not welcome' signs out? Come on, stirling. Live in the real world like the rest of us not some Al Murray Pub Landlord inspired landscape. Must do your head in. Edited by Kermit8 (27 Feb 2017 2.04pm)

Except it does, and is, which is why applications for teacher training are falling. When it falls to a level that actually requires governmental action I'll be more interested.

Of course there are people in every country who have it hard but the proof is in the surveys. I've had friends teach there who can attest to the country being in general content with itself. Does Japan want foreigners.....No.
