Are you telling me that you are so principled and virtuous that you wouldn't vote for a party because it had one member you didn't like?

Farage is calling him racist Farage is either not paying enough attention or knows the left will use this to their own advantage as the mainstream media have done a great job with the character assassination / misrepresentation of TR. It's a fairly easy target as there will always be a minority turning up to anything relating to TR who the media can use against him. That's going to happen if you are the only person in the mainstream speaking out about this stuff.

It's not about 1 person but the baggage he brings and how that tarnishes Ukip reputation I suspect you are fond of him and as you rightly point out it wouldn't influence your vote but I suspect many floaters who deserted Labour or Conservative recently would desert Ukip this time. Glass houses and all that. General comment... The last two years of farce around Brexit has resulted in Brexiteers becoming disillusioned with the Tories and jumping ship. Brexit, or perceived lack of it, has probably been the main factor behind membership increases. In politics it's the rebel vote, but that's surely all it will ever be.

I would hope that the more pragmatic would see past the 'baggage' and think about the bigger picture.

Personally I don't think TR joining UKIP makes sense for anyone. TR should just continue what he's doing and hopefully more and more moderate Muslims/Imams, and mainstream commentators will start to speak out with him (you just know there are many people in the public eye who agree but dare not say). UKIP need to focus on forcing a clean Brexit and wrestling votes away from both Corbyn and the Conservatives. They need to be the center party apposed to the political correctness and political elite that are pushing us into anarchy and social breakdown. They are all we have right now. I fear non of us have lived long enough to know when things get that bad (70+ years of relative peace) and so are immune to the warning signs. I fear things may easily get a lot worse than Brexit in Europe.

I fear non of us have lived long enough to know when things get that bad (70+ years of relative peace) and so are immune to the warning signs. I fear things may easily get a lot worse than Brexit in Europe. UKIP will have zero say in forcing a clean Brexit. They're not part of the conversation. I'd certainly see some Tory votes moving to UKIP next time round if the current deal gets ratified. But personally can't see it being any worse for the Tories than the last time they were 'popular'. Would take a serious incident for that to happen. I also think the perception of looming anarchy and social breakdown related to that is a bit strong. Out of interest have you arrived at that opinion though media coverage or through your own experience in your local area? I'm far more worried about the already rapidly developing issue of automation and what it means for most of the worlds workforce. Now that, if left unresolved, will cause anarchy and social breakdown. The gig economy is filling the job market nicely at the moment, but it won't do so forever, eg Uber. People driving cabs will be a thing of the past in 20/30 years. Extrapolate that out across a lot of the gig economy, manufacturing and assembly workforce... Recipe for serious unrest if not handled well. The rest of it is of course important but pales in comparison to the complexity of that issue. The well-off, well-educated and the 'elites' will always win. Plucky little Stevey won't even make so much as a brief, irritating smudge on their windscreen. Challenging the way of the world is noble, and required, but don't expect it to change anytime soon. Edited by SW19 CPFC (23 Nov 2018 3.05pm)

I like Robinson.....well to be more accurate I don't know him but I like the pushback he represents in a culture where no one else has the balls to do it.....Well, outside of Batten I suppose. I like Ukip......because without them we wouldn't be leaving the EU.....even though the elites are stitching us up. But there's some good comment on the thread.....Robinson and Ukip don't need to be aligned....if they are fine...if they aren't fine. However I do support Ukip's support of Robinson even if it's purely on the free speech angle. Edited by Stirlingsays (23 Nov 2018 3.14pm)

I don't think any sane person would not stand up for free speech. I may not agree with much Stephen says but would defend his right to say it. Equally free speech cuts both ways and others equally have the right to voice contrary views. Where I struggle is where on both sides speech either advocates or encourages violent action against others with such contrary views, be it from the right or left from one religion (or none) to another. Debate is good.
