IF, this is to be believed, Osian Roberts will be PV's No 2 . . . Badger posted this earlier, but not too surprising. PV did his coaching badges in Wales and thinks well of the there.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Agree whole heartedly with your first three paragraphs. I would today take 17th, I hope we're not in a relegation scrap but suspect we maybe. I have never really understood why serial failures like McClaren get employed time and again in big jobs. I can only assume that owners consider experience a top priority, seems less so for managers who get clubs promoted such as Nuno and Howe. Let's see and hope for the best Originally posted by jeeagles
Was wondering who the first person to mention this would be. To the club, and majority of players and supporters the ethnicity of the manager makes no difference. BAME is an offensive term and I'm sure some woke supporters may wrongly wear this as some kind of token badge of honour.... which is also patronising and offensive. But its good for people from different backgrounds to see that managerial roles and just reserved for white people with average ability that are part of the right circles in the English football establishment. On another note, an exciting an pleasing appointment. It's very, very hard for a manager to get a crack at a Premier League job. Clubs demand "premier league experienced" which tends to lead to the same group average/poor managers getting the top jobs time after time despite frequently failing. It won't take a genius to keep us up, and it would take a terrible manager to take us down. We were extremely unfortunate with FdB and chances are lighting won't strike twice. PV had an opportunity to build a real career for himself in football. The worst likely scenario is that things don't work out, we sack him at Christmas and buy our way to safety. The best possible scenario is that we've unearthed a real up and coming manager. Most likely is that we do a bit better than last season in the league, but start to assemble a squad where we are build for the future rather than just treading water. 13th and above with over 45 points would be an acceptable season. Above 11th and over 50 points would be fantastic. Edited by HKOwen (05 Jul 2021 12.28pm)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

I hope he brings something fresh to the club and inspires the players. If he plays the big time Charley, he will be gone before you can say frogs legs.

Let's see what actually emerges in terms of backing

Are you not also making a lot of assumptions by saying it was desperate?

So many were absolutely f***ing useless. McClaren says something on it like "I thought I was the stand out candidate for the England job as I was the only English manager with international experience". You can imagine him explaining this to the clueless idiots in the FA and talking himself into the job. Being around for a long time doesn't mean anything. It's what you achieve in that time which counts. He sounds like a pompous egotistical bell end with no self awareness. On the other hand Keegan freely admitted he wasn't good enough.

I'm really pleased that at last we now have a new head coach in place and a big welcome to PV and his team. I do hope he gets the support he has been promised and deserves and especially so in the transfer market which will be much needed. The job at Palace is going to be really one the toughest in the PL next season with so many changes in the first team squad and a particularly hard start to the new season which may not yield, I fear, many points in the first six games. Patience will be required from everyone both supporters and the Board as PV builds his team and playing style to suite his squads ability.I would like to take this opportunity to wish PV and his team much success and a long and happy career at CP.

Well I don't think it would have been the club's preference to appoint a new manager in July a day before pre-season training. But of course I could be wrong. We have had the luxury of a settled squad and a steady manager for four years. The club has known that Roy was going and the players were out of contract at the end of June.
