Not sure why we changed tactics yesterday after holding in form Fulham and Man Utd in last two matches. They had significant results yesterday which shows how well we did in holding them to 0.0 We went toe to toe with Spurs rather than sitting back as we have done recently? We just can’t do this against superior opposition. Luka and Reidewald were caught out often yesterday in forward positions, leaving huge gaps between them and the back four. In recent matches they had stayed in front of the back four for which yesterday they just weren’t there which left Spurs so much space. Also surprised that Hodgson made the halftime change having just pulled level? It backfired straight away? Surely if making that change then, Schlup for Eze was the change required? I hope we go back to setting up to support our aging back four for the West Brom game otherwise I fear a repeat of the Burnley performance? I will be happy with a 0.0 or sneaking a 1.0 but yesterday’s setup won’t give us that? Let’s hope I’m wrong :-(

Tottenham don’t pay big wages. Kane’s on similar money to Benteke , apparently.

Can’t argue with losing to the quality of Bale and Kane.

Our reliance on numbers and shape in defence, over youth and agility, makes us vulnerable to good teams with movement and pace in the final third. No surprise that we get some beatings by the top sides

Precisely.

We actually played ok today. We were punished for a couple of really stupid lapses, and had no luck to speak of. Best case, we could have nicked a draw.

The problem isn't with today's result, it will be with what we get out of the WBA match. We always seem to look halfway decent against the top clubs, and to look like abject sh-t against the worst clubs. BHA and Fulham dominated us much worse than Spurs or MU did.

Our goal differential is horrible, and it's a better indication of our play than our points total is.

BFS will have WBA going all out to get three points off of us, and I have to say that I see it more likely that WBA will get 3 points than we will.

On the bright side, Wilf is back and healthy. Maybe he can work some magic to get 1 or 3 points against WBA.

They've done that to not just us lol, they both have horrendous scoring issues but both play lovely keep ball you need to actually look at teams play to have an opinion on how they play lol

I was thinking the same. Benteke's strength is his aerial ability yet our wingers consistently fail to put crosses in for him.

He gets lots of crosses enough to score at least one every game he just lakes movement.

We are so desperately short of bite and pace in central midfield. The way we play, those two positions are extremely important for us but we have done nothing really to adequately strengthen this area other than signing McCarthy who is injury prone.

Whilst we have so many injuries I’m not sure why Kouyate hasn’t moved back into midfield and Kelly given another shot at CH.

Kouyate is more mobile than both Luka and Riedewald but I suppose who we really miss is McArthur for whom we have no like for like replacement.

Much investment required and I’m afraid to say.

Riedewald was off the pace last night and is very left footed. I have no complaints about the result, the start of that second half killed us. The Kane goal although brilliant very rarely go in. It cleared 2 Palace players in front of him and arched over our keepers head.

It had a feel of that 0-7 didn't it lol, wrong game for Riedewald he shouldn't be involved in these he appears too laid back and missing urgency in his play, very good technically with lots of ability but we needed him to be more alert.

Disagree! They will not thrash sides that defend correctly against them. And if we had defended as we did against Man Utd we may have lost but not so heavily? Set up last night was wrong, but perhaps a lot of that was down to those last 3 results and tiredness/knackered small and ageing squad?

Despite the result, I would like to commend Luka for getting that far up the pitch into a postiion that he doesn't normally find himself, and putting in a rather super cross for Benteke to head in the equaliser. One has to wonder why this isn't tried more often.

We were back in the game at 1-1 and should have continued with that formation.

Clinton 'that's not a good substitution'.

Unlike Roy as well he would normally continue for 15 minutes.

It was all over pretty quickly after Zaha appeared to find his way, that is not what a PL match should be about.

Still onward ever upward against the throstles.
