Maybe, I've not met many that are actually very racist, but some do have a bit of a hypocritical chip on their shoulder so to speak, though largely that's due to the same kind of lazy generalisation that equates white in the same way that Jewish becomes Israeli.

In the Youth Against Racism et al there were a few people who were prejudiced, but not really racist in the same way that groups like the National Front and BNP were / are.

I'll use her because it's easy and recent - the NUS rep who barred men and white people from her meetings. A racist move clearly, but apparently not racist because as "a woman of colour" she could not be racist. They squirm and hide behind definitions (which they make up to suit the agenda on the table - in her case "racism = power + differentiating on race, ergo someone in the race generally seen to be without the power cannot be racist". The same goes with this current antisemitism thing - they will make the same generalisations and broad statements that would be deemed racist were they to be directed, for instance, against Indians, but because it's against Israelis it's widely accepted among the chattering classes.

I think its reasonable to assume that there is a sliding scale in play here. The NF were actively racist, encouraged and involved in violence against people due to their ethnicity or lack of whiteness.

Which is a big stretch from those I met who were prejudiced against whites within groups like the Anti-Nazi League or Youth against Racism etc. I'm sure there are some anti-white hate groups out there, but I've never really come across one that is comparable to the NF.

Well people who think that are wrong and stupid.

Whilst I accept Johnsons sociological argument that it can be understandable why people from ethnic or different gender backgrounds maybe prejudiced by their experience of the imbalance of social power, that doesn't justify them utilising the language of hate either.

They're just people who like the status and power, they fail to understand a core feminist value that you can only escape oppression by raising the oppressor up to your standards, not by lowering yourself to theirs.

University kids huh. Everyone wants the revolutionaries chic, but they don't actually want to read the books they wrote. Sound byte activism learned from rote and TV, its just co-opting the language of the system to justify self identity, not change or social justice.
