Bloody Lyth again ! Thing is England MIGHT not be chasing much of a target in the second innings so maybe he won't have the opportunity to build a decent score. Another early dismissal in the second innings and this surely will be "Curtains" for him.

Who would you say is better? The only option I can think of is Hales, but not convinced he's any more of a Test opening batsman than Lyth.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

If I was about to be beheaded by a member of ISIS this very moment I could not name you one single England Cricket player, unless of course Ian Botham, David Gower & Geoffrey Boycott are still playing.

But we have Lyth to open !

I've got a sneeky feeling he might outscore the Aussies, collectively.

Not quite!

At least he outscored them individually!

Optimistic as ever

Hales or Stoneham seem to be the next cabs on the rank

He'll celebrate wining the ashes and getting dropped, an odd experience.

If we do wrap up the ashes in this test do you think that the selectors will give him one final chance in the final test ?
The way it's going he might not even get a bat in the second innings !

One of the most dominant day's play I've seen.....And I've watched a lot of English cricket.....Oh happy day.

It seems though that batting competence outside of your own country's classic conditions is becoming rarer and rarer.

You can see how the culture of faster scoring just doesn't work on English overcast mornings.....That's a flat pitch game.

Which does beg the question, what are you doing reading the Ashes thread?

Yet Rogers and Voges have spent most of their cricket careers playing here in summer and even Clarke, Warner and Starc have all played county cricket
