Yes, my mother, her mother and my father were teetotal. Lucky you. Granny used to get locked on Vodka and would regularly make a show of herself. Oh such colourful language i learned at a such a tender age.

Yes, my mother, her mother and my father were teetotal. He had a small glass of Cydrax (how that stayed on the market as long as it did is a mystery), mum had a snowball, and nan had a port and lemon (and if the ratio of lemonade to port wasn't more than 10:1, she would complain that it was "a bit strong". Where did it all go wrong for me?! My nan was the same. A glass of Ginger Wine at Christmas was about her limit then one year her next door neighbours gave her some Bailey's which she liked then after another two glasses dropped her fag into her open handbag, set it on fire and had to be helped/carried home.

Smoking Gauloises in France was a very different experience to lighting one up in the local. Similarly all those bottles of exotic booze people bought on holiday which tasted completely different when they got home. Christmas pudding was always a curiosity. Carefully inspecting the spoon to see if you were about to bite into a sixpence then finding out after one mouthful why it was only served once a year.
