He is on last year of contract so clubs may see if we are interested in a low price sale in case he wants to leave for nothing next year.

Yes I think he is a friend of PV

But everyone has their price and we don't know how PV would use him so him going is not impossible. However unlikely because of timing and current price is far too low for us to sell. If they were to offer double that I think we would consider it

I think the reality of football is that renewals of contracts will be on lower levels. So if he renews it will be on between half and 2/3rds of current deal. My guess is because of age his will be about half of current deal.

Wilf should be looking at this and wondering where this leaves him he certainly will not get 130k pw at end from anyone. Should he look at renewing now taking a pay cut but become more marketable because a minimum purchase price can be in contract and because of lower wage

He is on 65k a year and will probably, as he will be 32 next season, get offered about half, like Cahill, i think sadly he may leave, no way will Palace offer him 3 years.

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

If I was a him and generally happy with life in London I think I would be signing a new contract exciting times at the Palace.

Plenty of excitement in Turkey though, every week he'll be wondering will I get paid?

Blimey, bargain. Just over a grand a week. I'd double that!

I'd still prefer him in midfield....

Every player has their price - agree but clearly £4m is not his. If they want to interest Palace they surely need to start at £10m min.

If you are on over £70k a week you don't leave mid contract and sign a new one for a lower wage. You let your contract run down and then use your Bosman status to negotiate the best deal possible - either with your current club or an alternative. Just has Andros has clearly done with Everton.

He is approaching 32, but he has been pretty well physically solid.
If his performance levels and fitness are still high going toward the end of next season , another two years could work out well for club and player. The reason being getting someone in as versatile as him will cost more than keeping him, in fee and wages.
He has his critics, but his contribution to us still being in this league has been immense.

Or perhaps it's his agent stirring things up in order to get an extension from us

We should keep him as £65k pw is good value already and taking into account that he can slip into a CB or DM plus his very decent injury record is a no brainer.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

If he wont sign a new contract we still need to keep him till next summer. That gives us a year to 1. change his mind or 2. source a decent replacement.
We are too short on central defensive numbers this summer to be thinking about getting what we can for him. Besides, 4m might be what he is externally valued at but internally, to us he is worth more seeing out his contract.

Has been a solid performer and a reasonable stand-in at centre half but if Vieira is starting a 'new beginning'
he is replaceable.

We need more than just 'solid performers' if we are to progress.

The trouble being we also need an awful lot more money rapidly if we let anymore go right now for little or no money. We are still short of five or six if those going are to be replaced.
If we were to let Kouyaté, go now ,it would only mean someone would have to come in. A young player capable of doing what Kouyaté has done for Palace would cost a lot more than 4mill.
If Kouyate, goes next year for nothing , at least we have had our monies worth., and given ourselves time to see if the Viera, move is going to work out.
