It's made us boring and as predictable as day and night. I thought football was the game, not bean counting. At least Sunderland fans have something to dream about. What have we got? 15th position. Wow what a dream, not.

This.

Football is the game, I love watching us take on the big boys. Who doesn't want to take on the best? Of course we take beatings, some of them quite big too. I've seen us lose 3-0 to Doncaster and 4-0 at home to Scunny. Beatings can happen too in the lower league.
I do agree though that constantly hearing about squad costs is rather depressing, I miss that about the Championship as its almost never brought up.

The dilemma is how to push on from 12/14th place to 8/10th with the means available. Or how to indefinitely tread water.

Don't give a flying f*ck how our rivals are doing.
so its PL for me all day long.
If our 'rivals' come join us, all the better.

The point is to try and achieve as much as possible. That means being in the premiership and showing some ambition.

It worries me that some people think the point of being in the premiership is solely for financial security. We are supporting a sports team, not a bank balance.

I'd like for our goal to be always finishing in the top half of the Prem and have some good runs in other competitions. Something special might happen in a miracle year, like Leicester City's, but for me the realistically miraculous would be to finish top 4 once every decade or two.

The big money is in PL, that’s why we have investors, if we want to modernise the ground and have a successful team in the top flight it comes at a price that’s why the books have to balance. At the end of the day we are a professional football club and that is a business no matter what Professional league you are playing in and you have financial commitments to meet otherwise you fail at any level in the modern game.
