It's why I see Dyche as the best option if he wants to come. We may lose one or 2 of our star players and we probaly wont replace them with the same quality. The challenge is to upgrade the overall quality of the squad on a tight budget.

In other words a better team but less star players. Besides even if Wilf stays we should not overly rely on him.

Dyche has proven that at Burnley.

Look behind the headline loss figure and there are some more interesting numbers quoted; zero net debt and healthy cash reserves of £58.4m - those figures tend to indicate the club is well run and in a stable position although, of course, impacted significantly by Covid.
I could not see nothing as yet on the Palace website re the reported figures - perhaps there will be something later in the day.

Bit of a magic beanstalk business plan.
- We have to make sure we have a core of a side. Once our players find out they wont get a better deal elsewhere many will stay to save the cost of moving.
- No clubs have any money to sign our players, let alone pay big fees
- There's no guarantee new signings will be any better than the current lot.

We'll probably see a small investment in the summer again. Then continued small investments for a number of season whilst they try and cover this seasons losses. A repeat of the situation after Allardyce, De Boer and Hodgson spent £85m in two transfer windows.

A strategy of keeping what we have and investing £20m into a marquee signing each summer would be better than making a load of cheap squad player signings on bigger wages.

What you say is consistent in tone with the club's last published financial report, though that report suggests that we had ended up living slightly beyond our means before we sold AWB and cleared some debt. If we hadn't done that deal we would have been in trouble with the league for ffp.

The team building circa four years ago (Benteke, Sakho, Luka, PvA etc) took us into debt and we stayed there. Cash from the Americans has been used to cover the debts and covid losses.

From what I can tell, none of this (bar covid) is unsustainable as such. We could (I think) invest in a new group of four or five players this summer, go into debt again, and pay it back over the next three or four years like we did last time, though as was the case previously, we would be skint for the next few windows.

They can’t play forever mate. They’re already old and slow and that’s worsening. One player per season isn’t enough.

There’s many players within an age bracket of a few years, so several players born in the same year over several years.

I'm interested to see where the cash reserves have come from as cash has been increased by £47m. I wonder if extending the year end from June to July has had any bearing on cash as season ticket holders could have been coughing up in July.

I doubt whether payments from Manchester United would have anything to do with it as the club borrowed against that debt

I don't think we can let them all go - some have to stay. There's a lot of players out of contract elsewhere, but they're not that good...

Prem: [Link]

Championship: [Link]

The list above is inaccurate e.g. it shows Schlupp on it. However, there's very few players who look mid-table Prem quality who aren't 30+ years old looking for a final pay day. I don't realistically see how we could let 10+ players go, and get enough players in to get a sufficient squad size without spending close to £100m in transfer fees. We'd have to be first choice for every out of contract player we're in for.

2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough
1st June 2010 - D-Day 2 - Survival at Lloyds
7th June 2010 - CPFC2010 exchange contracts.

Guita

Clyne Kouyate Mee Mitchell

New New New Sclupp

Eze

Mateta

Clyne on a sensible contract and Mee is available on a free, Should get at least 25/30 million For Wilf and Luka plus about 50m on wages to reorganize, if Dyche is Manager Wilf wont be in his Team, doesn't work hard enough on covering back for a wide player, and isn't His type of forward

We would still have Butland, Riedewald, Ayew, McArthur, Tomkins, Ferguson and a few decent young players on our books

Well we must have lost about 20m from matchday revenue plus we have the 8th highest wage bill in the league which doesn't help. Then there's all the money we spend on transf.... Never mind.

in the report it said we only had £58m in cash reserves due to a £30m loan we had taken out.

headlines for me are up to last years accounts (if i remember correctly) we had actually broken even over our tenure in the PL.

if it had not been for AWB sale last year would have been £40m loss, so £60 this year factors in covid losses.

we could easily clear £10m a year in wages this summer without losing wilf.

i really, really want him to stay his whole career but can see the £50 & additional £6.5m off the wage bill being attractive to the americans.
