The thing is, how do you get a bunch of overpaid journeymen to have that bit of fire and pride when the bar is set so ridiculously low? PL survival at all costs, 17th place acceptable. We've seen the lack of desire for a cup run, instigated by the manager's team selection and tactics in those games. Have we got a bunch of overpaid journeymen ? Ward, Zaha. JMac most of our team have been there several seasons. It’s 100% management, we buy a #10 Eze play him on the left wing instead of Townsend/Wilf or Schulp take your pick. Ayew play him on the right ... after him having a good season up front. Tekkers with nobody to cross to him. Matea scores, gets subbed and is never seen again. The team gets over run playing 442 yesterday, what does Roy do swap 2 midfield players for 2 midfielders, it’s an ever decreasing circle of misery for our team .... You listen to Leeds players, looking up the table, Roy well 17th is all I want .. last season we ended 7 loses .. this season let’s do it again. If we are changing managers do it now SP or let us know if Roy is staying so I can refund my ST £ and return when s*** changes.

In answer to the thread headline, I think it's a mix of both. First and foremost, the manager always has to take responsibility. At last, Hodgson accepted responsibility after the game. However, the mindset and negative tactics employed against every team has been dispiriting and depressing to watch. We all know, we can't compete Onan equal footing with Man City, Spurs, etc etc, but when we concede possession against lower opposition and simply sit back, waiting for a mistake, we will consistently lose games. Despite what the manager says after games, we do not put things right. I agree that Hodgson has kept Palace in the Premier, but his expectations are always too low. His ambition, which the players 'feed off' is too low. eg We are safe so therefore there is nothing left to do. Re the players, there has been alack of desire from most, BUT we have players out of position and a midfield that lacks quality overall. Eze is a potential quality player, but is played out of position, therefore seriously limiting his ability to create chances to win matches. Zaha is not a typical 'front man'. He has been made virtually redundant in current position, where his dribbling skill has almost diminished. Defensively, we are very much below Prem average. We have some good young players in reserves. Some of them need 'blooding' before the end of the season, before we lose them!
Hodgson has done a job that was necessary. New blood at manager level and with the playing staff is now urgently required. With fans in the stadium, I think there would have been mutiny by now!

I think it's a mix of the following: I predict at the end of the season that Zaha will be sold to offset the cost of new players that are needed. The likes of Sakho, Wickham, Benteke etc will finally be sacked off. Ferguson may finally be fit next season, fingers crossed for some of the youth to make more of a show (wishful thinking), a new manager, less reliance on one player, some forward play with a forward more likely to score than our defenders, Cahill to have an extended contract, some of the elderly also to leave, a fresh start with a bit more ambition in the cups next season.

Under him everything has become jaded and stale. The point I was trying to make is that the players we have are overpaid for the task they have to achieve and the ability they actually display.
