If 38 points is enough for safety, can pre-season start now? Originally posted by Midlands Eagle
There are those in the know that feel that none of the U23s are ready for first team action and surely we want to win as many games as possible by putting our our best team. Isn't pre-season the time for experimenting?

If he is off to pastures new then that would be shame.

"I have a feeling those days are gone because each Premier League game is of such vital importance. But if he continues to impress us as he's doing, he plays in a wide area where there's competition, but maybe he feels he can handle the competition, who knows? Perhaps he'll do so well that we'll decide our best team for the last few games is one with him in it. "But he's got to get past some players that we really do believe in and really do appreciate. If I was a betting man, which I'm not, I wouldn't bet on him getting that appearance before the end of the season unless it's him getting on as a substitute." The final line answers any questions over whether we'll be seeing many youth players in the run in! We're not exactly blessed with loads of options out wide, so if he is that good I would like to see him get a chance to stake a claim, but only if there is still a chance he'll sign a deal with us. If he is leaving and has already made hi mind up then there is zero point. Based on the fact he has joined the first-team squad this suggests to me the club are trying to persuade him to stay. It says a lot that it is an U18 player and not an U23 player that is knocking on the door. I'm not sure how these things work, so why if he is that good is he not in the U23 squad? Is it because the U18s are better? Just curious.

Perhaps i can answer some of that for you, my take is, although he has played for the U23's, the U18's are top of PL2 & are in with a great shout of promotion. He is of more value there to help the kids gain promotion more than the U23's who are comfortably mid table in their league. Letting him join up with the senior squad is both a good move by the club in terms of persuading him to stay, but, also reward for being a promising prospect.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Thank you for clarifying that for me eagleman and doombear. The U18s do seem to have more excitement around them at the moment.

Rak-Sakyi is on the bench today. I'd be most surprised if he gets on but it shows some intent toward the youngsters. I just hope naming U18s/23s as subs isn't just a sop to stop criticism of the club not giving youngsters a chance.
