The irony of the BBC confusing one black payer for another would be rich indeed (perhaps we could have a BBC Offensive Mistake History Month), but in fairness at least these two fellas have the same name if not, unfortunately for us, the same physical robustness. Does remind me of the story, which has persisted in some quarters, that back in the day AC Milan bought Luther Blissett by mistake when intending to purchase John Barnes. The notion being that they went to a Watford game having heard good things about Barnes, saw a totally different black fella, shrugged and said 'Well, that must be our man then!' Happily for the causes of human social furtherance and racial harmony, but perhaps sadly for those who really like it when big organisations make expensive f*** ups, the tale is apparently very much untrue. Edited by TheBigToePunt (25 Feb 2021 2.11pm) Crikey, throw him a bone, even Robocop could do his ACL. Let's see how robust he is next season. On which, it's been a year since his injury and no sign of a return. That is a long time for one so young. It has been said elsewhere, but it cannot be coincidence, that we always top the league in injuries every year; and we appear to have no earthly idea when players are coming back.

Ones a striker and the others a right back that's not been given the keys to get out of our medical room since he joined!

Perhaps we could claim we were tricked and it was the other Nathan Ferguson that we thought we were buying. Wouldn’t be the first time!! Bristol Rovers had a great little striker who scored s*** loads of goals called Marcus Stewart. They actually sold us Gareth Taylor, who wasn’t a great little striker and didn’t score s*** loads of goals

Unfortunately, he headed like a defender - over the bar or wide of goal. Off the top of my head he scored 1 in 20. He's still in the game - coaching or managing. Could be Man City ladies? Can't remember.

They don’t even look alike. I just wish our boy would get fit. This length of recovery doesn’t bode well but at least age is on his side.

It was just so laughable though wasn’t it? Rovers had two strikers, one a highly rated goal scorer and we decide to buy the other one!!

Didn't one of the fanzines produce t-shirts that said 'I was there when Taylor scored!'? I'm not sure if I was. I do remember the nadir for Taylor though. A home game (maybe against Huddersfield?), someone gets to the byline, hangs up a peach of a cross to the far post. The cross is so good, a delicate chip that takes the whole defence and goalkeeper out of the game in one stroke. Waiting on the back post is Taylor, who by this point has played about ten games without scoring. He's put no little effort in, has shown flashes of quality, but one or two grumbles are beginning to surface. His Palace career is delicately poised it seems. Get that goal, and the floodgates will open. Go much longer without scoring and his confidence may crumble. As the ball is in the air, it becomes apparent that all Taylor has to do is stand still and let it hit him. He's a yard out with an open goal, all alone. The crowd begins to cheer already. Not only are we going to score, but Taylor will score. It will all work out. He will do well now, and so will we. Then he missed. The cheers turned to thousands of voices all asking, in unison, how the f*** did he miss that? You can hear it all around the ground for about five minutes afterwards. Taylor seemed to shrink about a foot, and never recovered. Poor b******.

Slightly off topic but what hell is happening with our Nathan Ferguson??.. Are we ever going to see him??
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |
