Love how the Palace defender dives full length too palm the ball away for the penalty and ref doesn’t even speak to him.

This was before the Big Match, Match of the Day etc. so what programme would this have been broadcast on? Yes, I was wondering that. Turns out it was one of the games shown on the Beeb's Sports Special programme at 22:35 on the day of the match.

We had won promotion to the top division for the first time in our history on 19th April, and the stand was built in time for our first match of the new season on 9th August. Fantastic achievement by our then Chairman, builder Arthur Waite.

I recall programmes into which were inserted publications called the 'Football League Review'. I also recall the rosettes, rattles, bobble hats, claret and blue walking sticks and some supporters with scarves hanging from their wrists.

Mr Waite seemed a man to meet a question with a straight answer: In terms of oldest footage of Palace, I found this of us getting tonked 11-4 at home by Man City in the FA Cup from 1926: Edited by TheBigToePunt (21 Jan 2021 12.27pm)
