Another one for the great Palace cull of summer 2021 then? We'll have a five a side team if some have their way.

For me, Townsend goes in the same category as half the squad, including many of those whose contract expires this summer: by all means let him go if we have a better player to replace him with.
Otherwise, keep him.

His limitations are evident, and though not astonishingly expensive he isn't cheap either. I could say the same about my house to be honest, but before I sell it I really need a better one to move to. Until then, and whatever its faults may be, it's important to remember that living in my house is better than living in the park.

Couldn't beat a drum, never mind a fullback.

I like Andros. He always puts in a shift. I can’t name one player in our squad that is consistent and looks good week in week out.
I can’t name one player in the last few years that’s improved since joining us. Maybe Schlupp?
We seem to ruin players rather than develop them nowadays. Maybe it’s the way we play, makes good players look s***. I’ve seen people on here start to turn against Eze so no surprise they’d moan about Townsend.
I’d like to know who in our squad you (the op) would keep?

The issue with Townsend is pace. He just isn't that quick anymore. I just can’t see any excuse for not trying the youngsters out wide. If Banks is fit he is certainly worth a try, also Pierrick is just as effective as Townsend is now. He could at least be given a run out for 25 mins. We learned nothing from a thrashing and tried nothing new.

Age is creeping up on him. Unfortunately he is one of a number of the squad in a similar situation, around 8 or so. As a complete ship out isn't possible, 2 to 3 going a season seems more likely, meaning 3 seasons for a complete overhaul. Whatever his short comings I would be looking at the likes of Wickham before him.

I cannot fault the effort of Andros Townsend but this stage of his career he offers precious little from an attacking standpoint.

With no attacking right back as well, we offer no threat down this side and have become one dimensional with forays concentrated down the left.

Spot on Willo. Andros puts in a shift. He tries to be an attacking option but simply doesn't have it any more. Occasionally he gets space in which to do something good but often fails then to deliver. His two notable contributions came in the first two games against under-prepared Soton (an assist) and Man U (his solitary goal so far this season).

He's unlikely to improve but as other posters have said, we have other ageing players we need to offload first and we can't afford to get rid of all our declining players in one go. Hopefully, Banks can step up to the plate next season with Andros as a bench/injury cover option. (I'm not expecting us to buy a replacement wide player as our priorities clearly lie in midfield and a new young CB - plus, of course a better striker - but can't see the striker coming - will cost too much).

Townsend in his pomp used to have the ability to cut in and score goals from distance with his left foot.He used to be able to beat left-backs on the outside and cross with his right foot.

With the passage of time he has lost pace and is in the 'Twilight' of his career.
One cannot fault his effort and can still play his part but alas as an attacking outlet he is far removed from the player he was in his prime.

Not sure why people seem to want to tear into all of our players. We can't just miraculously sign a new team.

Townsend is a good professional, had a decent game against Arsenal, less good against City.

With natural back up on the right wing and all the defensive duties he is asked to carry out its no surprise he fades in and out during the season.

With the utmost respect I wasn't seriously denigrating Townsend.
I merely asserted that the passage of time has had an affect and that he is not the attacking force he was in his pomp.
He certainly offers defensive diligence, his effort cannot be questioned and his form is improved from last season.

Given that he is left footed and plays on the right, the opposition always know what he is likely to do - ie. cut in onto his left foot.
