Therefore it would be difficult to add non bubble players at short notice!

Parish probably decided to save some money. Perhaps there was a big difference in the cost of a 20 seat minibus as opposed to the next size up.

This isn't a reason though, right? U23s main aim is to develop players well enough to be part of the first team. If an opportunity arises at the last minute, you don't hold players opportunity back because you have a game. 100% agree! Think if you ask any of those players - go to Etihad or play U23, they would choose the trip to Manchester. And still be able to take part in the U23 game today, because Roy H. would never have given them any game time vs Man s***ty.

Respectfully, you are missing the point, they would not be able to switch bubbles at short notice without observing the c19 protocol set up by the PL to allow games to take place, therefore no u23 player would have been allowed to travel and mix with the PL squad. Roy is an experienced Manager and if he could have added a full bench by adding U23 players then he almost certainly would have done!

The fact that the youngsters were not there is more telling because of the fact that they never even made it into Roy’s thought process. He would rather play an old hand totally out of position than play a youngster in their correct position. Oh sorry I forgot, he already does that, sometimes all over the pitch.

Sorry, but whilst I understand your concern it is also not fair to blame Roy as it more to do with bubbles and PL c19 protocols that will not allow the mixing of players from two different bubbles without going through the process of isolation and two negative tests within five

There are many benefits of naming young players on the bench for big games. It will encourage them, providing a strong indicator that they are progressing towards the first team. It will give them chance to mix with the first team, get to know them and to see how professionals that had 'made it' approach match days. It will normalise the first team match day process. You can't simply roll out of bed, grab your kit bag, and turn up for a premiership team. Familiarity with pre-match briefing and build up can only be a good thing. The players won't have played under the instruction of Roy and Ray. Being close by will help them learn what the management expect of the players. It will also make the senior players start to look over their shoulder at the players coming up through the system. There's no real drawbacks and a lot of benefits.
