It’s a shame it never worked out but... it didn’t work out.

No surprise and no crying matter for me.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Max was clearly a Freedman/Parish signing but Roy is a very experienced manager and wont be told who to put in his team

Do believe that this signing along with others must post the question about Freedmans ability.
Roy always diverts questions about transfers to Dougie but you have wonder whether Roy has any say in transfers at all.
We have too many poor signings that have outweighed the good ones.... and we always seem to be so slow off the mark in signings or the selling of players.
I don’t understand the technicalities of player sales but why are we always so slow in getting players in/out.?
Clearly we have a big rebuilding operation required in the summer but are we going to leave it until the end of August.?

Considering how little we've paid (in relative terms) for the following:
McCarthy, Ayew, Tomkins, Kouyate, Riederwald and Butland and the 'frees' but no doubt with signing on fees (Cahill, Clyne and Guaita) who are all the poor signings over the last four/five years other than Benteke, Sakho and Wickham?

As for a big rebuilding operation in the summer, I wouldn't hold your breath. We might offload three or four at most. Expect an evolution not a revolution, especially if Hodgson stays.

Bit of shame. He's a decent player but just didn't fit the system. I suspect this season will be Roy's last and he may have got more of a chance under a new manager.

But at the same time, we can't have players on £100k pw who are nowhere near the matchday squad.

It's the best move for Palace and gives Max the chance to rebuild his career elsewhere. It just didn't work out as we all hoped and I wish him well. No doubt he'll score against us soon!

Time to make some big decisions about some of the squad to free up Money for rebuilding next year.
Hennessy
Wickham
Sakho
Kelly
Dann
Both the Macs...
Plus a few others maybe...

Not sure if you are suggesting all in that list are worse than Mayer.

Some are and I have no doubt some will move on but both the Macs? I still rate McArthur as worth his place at the club and in the side. Often one of our unsung heroes.

Kelly remains a useful aquad player due to his versatility and possibly Dann.

With all the pre-signing hype I anticipated a Toni Kroos
Mark 2.
However just a lightweight Bannan or Williams.

In his games he played and in the practise sessions shown on cpfc tv the best we can say of Max was that he was a neat and tidy player. Offensively he could find a player (Usually Wilf ) but his shooting and dribbling were not Premier League Standard. He was not really tried as a defensive midfielder but he did not look to have much physical presence to play that role in the Premier League. His at least remained fit and good luck to him in the future.

He did show flashes of brilliance.

Sometimes as much as twice a match.

Camarasa (if bizarrely)? Sorloth?

But, having said that, I don't accept Benteke was a bad signing at all and hope he's just embarking on the process of making up significantly for the disappointingly long injury lay-offs he's had. Wickham has lived up to his reputation sadly for us and him; a foolish gamble from the beginning. But both Benteke and Wickham were Pardew signings. Sakho was hardly a bad signing; he was key to the Allardyce escape; in hindsight we would probably have been better advised to have said thanks for the loan and ended his connection with Palace after that; but I don't remember hearing that view much when he joined permanently and he is arguably the most talented footballer in our impressive array of centre backs. Disappointing rather than bad perhaps. Whatever we think about tat, he was an Allardyce signing, loan and permanent. Jairo Riedwald, come to that, was a Frank de Boer signing.

Sticking to signings made under the current regime, Doombear's right; they've done very well; with both the exceptions I've mentioned mitigations can be made; we have yet to see Ferguson but Banks nad Lewis seem to be setting the under 23s alight in Premier 2 - which marks another upgrade for the club. With Meyer departed, I'm keen to see which of the exciting midfield prospects we've been linked with might replace him. My view is we're in year 3 of the second five year plan; we can't win a game we control yet but it's beginning to look feasible.

Bert Head. He was a real trader. Brought in some top players and sold plenty.
Current leaders of club don’t seem capable of this. However, when Benteke and Wickham signed the extra year maybe they dropped to a tiny salary. Say a million? You know the type I would dream of.
