PVA has been disappointing of late.
Schlupp has played at left-back.
Riedewald has also played there for us.

Would like to see PVA higher up in the starting line-up with young Michell as left back. Not understand why this has never been tried!

Schlupp is a far better left back in my opinion. I hope he plays there today. If PVA is on the sheet I may well be swiftly heading to the "Roy Out" thread.

Firstly, I wouldn't say PVA is not interested.

Secondly, you make it sound like the club are somehow at fault for not letting a player have everything his way, if what you say is true. Why should they ? He's signed a big money contract, he should honour it.

Pretty much this. I remember reading an interview from him I think during Jan 2020 (so almost a year ago) and he was very much leaving the door fully wide open to go back to the Netherlands. This also coincided with one of the main Dutch teams (think it was PSV) being linked with him, so he was very much flirting.

I understand his contract is up summer 2021 and whilst I'm a fan of his, I can't deny he's been absolutely woeful this season.

We have 3 options: sell in Jan 21, let him go for free at the end of the season or give him a new contract.
I say we must definitely look to move him on in Jan and get £5-10m for him to support the massive rebuild in the Summer.
We're covered with Tyrick, Schlupp and Jairo (although I'd still want him in CM) that we can afford to get rid now and if needs be reassess that position in the Summer.

To me it's a cost benefit analysis situation to continue with PVA till summer and/or beyond and he's simply been underperforming pretty much all season.

We need to start generating transfer kitty and he's an "asset" which can still bring in a bob or two... Same goes for Mccarthy!

Before I go any further can i just say that PVA was horrendous against Villa and Liverpool and the gaps left exposed at the back were huge, the third goal was in excusable. However I don’t think we can just blame PVA, it is easy to blame the individual but the problems are inherent in the system and the way we have played recently, this is a link to the heat map for Ward and PVA on Saturday. [Link]

PVA is told to get forward, he either gives an option to Eze and others or takes the fullback/ covering wide midfielder out of the equation allowing space for Eze/Wilf or anyone else to work in. 45% of attacks are down the left hand side and PVA, whoscored [Link] has him as the most key passes per game for last season and is 4th behind Townsend, Eze and Wilf for this season. He is an important part of our attacking play
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that PVA is better going forward then in defence the reason he has played so long in the premier because he is good at getting forward. If he were as good getting forwards as he was in defence he would be championship at best , conversely if he was as good in defence as he is getting forward then he would be playing at much better team then Palace.
That‘s PVA flaw, if we are going to play him and get him forward we need to cover when he does, PVA was rubbish so was Dann and the system helped neither against a mobile and quick counter attacking team

We can play Mitchell but he won't get forward as much as PVA and Eze will be left isolated. More likely Schlupp if any replacement he is not as adventurous as PVA but can get forwrd , if Clyne then comes back in with Townsend on the right we will have more attacking scope down both wings and better balance

I expect to see Townsend start in his usual position.
