Given the general consensus regarding our aged first team, a good few who are soon to be out of contract, combined with Parish's estimation about the Academy I would rather expect a few of the U23s to break into the first team if not this season then definitely next. Mitchell should already be back in, he has proved himself capable.

A thoroughly enjoyable game. All 4 1st teamers played 90mins, even Roy was there to watch it, which was nice. Sam Woods is becoming a brill CB, commanding loud & assured, could be a small answer to our ageing squad? Mitchell was a revelation, i can only conclude he was NOT allowed to forage forward in his few 1st team appearances, shame really.

After Banks went off, Mathews replaced him & the team went to 433, so him Street & Spence were mobile, interchanging & a right handful. All in all, a great game to watch, the future is bright, the future is Red n Blue

Very good summary, and as you say, encouraging. god jul (2 of the four words I know in Norwegian)!

Another in a series of highly enjoyable U23 matches.

Only £3 to watch, a steal.

RH there, think he has his eyes on one or two stepping up this season, Woods and Mitchell certs for me.

Totally agree. If we hold on to them, Banks and Matthews within in the next 2 years

Mitchell bombing down the left with Roy in attendance. Is he under instructions to do this in preparation to replace PVA?

Tbh I'd like to give Mitchell the LB spot for the rest of the season especially if PVA is leaving. Yes he's not as good going forwards but PVA is a liability at the back. Plus Mitchell did have some telling contributions in goals we scored against United and Fulham.

Having just posted this I see Doombear had pretty much the same thoughts as me just a few minutes earlier

none will probably feature on boxing day unless due to injury but with a game on the 28th Roy will shuffle the pack as he did at West Ham last week.

Our bench looked very strong v Liverpool, all 9 had decent 1st team experience

Only saw the second half.

Yet Riedewald was playing the full game. Even though at pedestrian pace
from what I saw. . Mitchell, Woods and Pierrick looked good. Both Tomkins and MacArthur physically fit.

If and when we are relatively safe, I then think he will introduce a few of these kids

As above, Tyrick needs to be at left back slot. He has done enough from what I have seen so far. He sorted that winger from Brighton out and not many have been able to cope with him this season.

PVA is under tactical orders by Roy to attack....
He could just as easily tell to stay back!!
