Really hope not. His link up play with Wilf and Eze is responsible for an awful lot of our goals.

Problem is PvA leaves for free in the summer unless he gets and accepts an extension. If he isn't going to sign an extension then best to sell him January.

As for Mitchell, he has shown some good things going forward including an assist with a cross but still has a lot to learn. I'd be inclined to loan him out in January and use Schlupp as PvA's back-up if needed.

Ferguson can also play LB when he is fully fit which should hopefully be by January.

Would love to see this team when everyone is fit (4-3-2-1) PVA and Clyne playing more attacking would benefit everyone going forward and Palace would be better defensively with Mitchell and Ferguson /Ward. Schlupp to also alternate with PVA and Clyne.

Guaita

Mitchell Dann Kouyate Ferguson

Van Aanholt Riedewald Clyne/Schlupp

Zaha Eze

Benteke

I've always thought PvA was underrated, but no longer. He operates best in the opponent's half - but he's got a number 3 on his back. Go figure.
PvA spends too much time passing back, often not bothering to even look, never mind pass into an attacking space.
His late touch today sums him up perfectly. Cheerio Patrick, and sincere best wishes with your new team.

I don't think there's any need to feel sorry for him. He's a young lad who's acquitted himself quite well and is capable of stepping in.

Frustrating as he is Van Aanholt is a worthy first choice IMO.

I also think PVA will be gone in January.
We need to reduce the average age of the squad and he still has a not unreasonable resale value.
We also have decent cover already in place.
Yes he gives us attacking options but sometimes he just needs to defend better!

I think I'm harder on Mitchell than most here. I thought Mitchell was "ok" or "fine", but he really hasn't done anything to make me think he's a world beater on defense or going forward. Unlike AWB for example, who was a shut down defender, and excellent going forward on offense.

Mitchell was caught out of position a few times, and really contributed nothing at all going forward. That doesn't mean I think he's a bad player, I just think he is average, mediocre, just another guy at this point of his young career.

Given we are starved for any offensive talent at the moment, I would start PVA over Mitchell, until Mitchell's game develops more.

2017 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Middlesboro
2018 Jan. (Sako) Palace 1 - 0 Burnley
2019 May (Batshuayi, Batshuayi, OG, Van Aanholt, Townsend) Palace 5 - 3 Bournemouth
2020 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Newcastle

He seemed better with schlupp in front of him.
More confident to take on the man as schlupp was constantly talking to him. Maybe in Roy's mind that's the duo on the left once pva leaves.

I agree with all of this, but he is young and has the time to turn himself into a better player. He also faces the unfortunate situation of following in AWBs shoes. Not everyone comes out of the development squad and becomes a £50m player in one season.

Apart from a serious loss of form or an injury I now think that Mitchell is now the regular LB. PVA will probably leave in the summer which means we will need another LB as cover.

Palace will no doubt offer Mitchell an improved contract and having a taste of first team football can’t imagine he would go to Arsenal as a number 2 if indeed this story has any truth behind it.

Don't think LB cover will be high on the club's list of priorities as both Schlupp and Riederwald can play there if the need arose.
