The mind might be playing tricks-I've followed Palace since 1965 so it probably is, but I seem to remember a Roy Hodgson Blackburn side once beat Sheff Wed 7-2. It seems almost unimaginable that he could now even think of being that ambitious and give his players free rein. Of course, keeping Palace up in the season he arrived was a massive achievement, but my question is rather whether anyone at Selhurst has any handle on what progress represents? Do we just aim to survive relegation every season? Is that enough? Although Palace has had impressive results against some of the top six teams in recent seasons, I always feel that when we play Chelsea in particular, there is no real belief that this is a game that can be won. It's more a case of 'how do we limit the defeat to the odd goal?'Of course, Roy Hodgson has also managed Inter Milan, and I always get the impression that defending brilliantly and then nicking a 1-0 win is really what he thinks football is all about.

Max meyer is too lightweight for a premier league midfield. James MacArthur is definitely a more rounded player even if age is catching up.

Agreed, if you're playing 4-4-2.

May sound silly this early in the season but I am beginning to wonder where the further 27 points to stay up are going to come from. We have been lucky in several wins but have been abysmal against Brighton, Chelsea, Wolves and now Burnley. Many experts say we have a good squad of players but if so, they are not producing. So, is it them or is it the manager's tactics? The latter for me. He is incapable of either fielding the right team, inspiring them or employing the required tactics. His attitude is baffling and he doesn't seem much concerned when we play badly. Heaven help us if Zaha is out through the virus (as now) injury or transferred in January. The statistics don't lie - we don't win many when he is absent. I am pretty certain that any decent manager could bring out the best in the squad and compensate should we lose Zaha. I am beginning to think that, of those currently available, Eddie Howe could be that man. Tosh, totally and absolutely.

it is not the fault of our manager or any other manager when his defence play like they've never seen a football before.

Brighton have done very very well in building their stadium and building their squad, we haven't and there is your answer, Mr Hodgson is doing an excellent job considering the mess which is our squad.

Some fresher legs at centre half are a must. We have a massive lack of pace in that area. Wan bissaka was so quick and covered up the problem it created when he was with us.

Hopefully Ferguson when he flipping gets fit will push Clyne to play even better and I prefer Mitchel over PVA as a defender, Kouyate had his worst game this season last night and looked a disaster waiting to happen every time the ball went near him which sadly undermined our whole approach defensively going back and even more sadly moving the ball forward, such a shame because he has played so brilliantly in this position, he is definitely in the right place and should be kept there which is well away from anywhere else on the pitch, just hope he prepares and composes himself before the Newcastle game.

Our chairman clearly sees the Academy as the first step in moving forward in this league and I think he's right. We now have a few promising youngsters. As a small to midsize PL club we will need to 'grow' more talented youngsters. With a Cat A academy we have already recruited better youngsters and can expect to continue to do so. Yes some will end up being sold like AWB but others will stay with us. As for the outlook in the coming games mentioned by the OP (and these are followed by Arsenal (Away), Sheff U (Home) and Citeh (Away), we will have opportunities to play our counter-attacking football and will have some surprising wins and disappointing losses. I'm hoping for at least 10 points from these next 10 games which would leave us on 23 at the halfway mark. Edited by doombear (24 Nov 2020 10.52pm) Edited by doombear (24 Nov 2020 10.52pm)

My impression is that we are not blessed with pace in nearly all areas of the pitch. A number of players in the twilight of their careers and in this rather unusual season we could really pay the price due to the short pre-season and the physical demands of the PL.
