I suspect Roy wanted Schlupp to look after Mitchell so Eze (our only creative attacking midfield option) was sacrificed. The only Palace player on the pitch who can see a pass (Jairo) was far too occupied firefighting in front of the back 4, but on the rare occasions he had the space to be creative did some decent stuff.

The Schlupp tactic worked and reduced Lamptey’s effectiveness.

Spot on. Instead of putting them on the back foot with Eze we just invited attack after attack down the right. Edited by EddieMac (18 Oct 2020 9.22pm)

Roy has to teach eze how to be a DM and defend diligently. Flair gone, job done.

Sorry to be boring - saying the same words time after time - but I do think that we have set out our stall well to attract our next manager. The question is who will say the words "out you go, show me what you can do" can be expected to produce great CPFC results. COYP

i thought Eze was a No 10 who had licence to roam. When he has played he's been stuck on the left wing and reminds me of Zaha under performing there last season. Now it appears Roy prefers Jeff for his defensive abilities. Maybe he was signed as a Zaha replacement but i still think we can accommodate both. Wilf and Bats upfront don't offer us any physical presence and neither can head the ball (despite both being 6 foot!!). Maybe just play Wilf in the 9 and Eze behind, especially at home. Then Roy can still have 2 workers on the wings. Thoughts??

If Eze is playing left wing in a 4-4-2 he will need to sharpen up his defensive game. That would be the same in most prem teams.

There is no reason why Townsend, Zaha and Eze can't interchange those 3 positions during the match if they feel there is a weakness to exploit. Schlupp/Ayew miss out under this scenario so I'm not sure it will happen.
