come on it was a hard watch but anybody could see the established players just treated it like a pre season game to get fitness up and the s*** players who wont get near our match squad let alone the starting 11 were just s***. You didnt expect a back 4 of jach woods Inniss and kelly to be able to pass the ball to a midfielder under pressure without losing it did you.

I never watch the first round(s) of the league cup anymore and glad I don’t. It doesn’t tell you much.

Fairly predictable a thread like this would appear. Most clubs are not interested in this Mickey Mouse cup and use it to give squad players a competitive game of sorts and get others game time to improve fitness. There is no interest in winning the game, there is no benefit at all financially as there are no crowd receipts to share.
So Roy gets slated for doing what every other Premier Manager does, using it as a game to see if anyone is able to step up to the first team, from what I have read nobody stood out.
We all should know the Premier is the main focus, not a silly cup that draws the next round before the first has been played, see Man City waiting a few days before a game against Everton isn’t an incentive.

Agree, and to discreetly disappear from this competition was the right decision by Roy.

Roy did say that he could not understand why round 2 was drawn before round 1 commenced.

Knowing who are playing in the next round could well affect how the team plays or team selection.

I wouldn't read too much into that performance. I've seen some pretty dire stuff from us before in the League Cup - two or three seasons ago Shrewsbury played us off the park for most of the game at Selhurst, although we did run out winners in extra time I believe.

Two trips to Manchester in under a week then a PL match a day & half after would have been a nightmare.

Not sure if the OP being a newbie is suspicious or just very young.

I think being drawn away at Man City made up our minds. If we had a home league 2 tie, we may have been more up for it.

I wouldn’t bother till the semis at least! I think if we ever happened to fluke our way that far then maybe we would actually try to win it.
I love the FA cup but even that is similar, if we find ourselves in the 5th round then maybe give it a crack but staying in the prem is all it’s about for the club.

You can either look at the performance and critisise the quality of it (and based upon not conceeding you can't critisise the defensive aspect) or you can look at the game as a process.
Jach, Woods, Inniss all getting minutes in a back 4 that kept a clean sheet?
Kirby playing 70 minutes?
Eze getting 90 under his belt?
Yes, like watching paint dry, but as a process, lots of possitives.
Oh and another find, confirming Hennessey should stay off penalties....
