Guita Ward Cahill Tomkins PVA McCarthur, Luka, Kouyate, McCarthy Zaha, Ayew Bench: 1. Messi Schlupp gets 5 minutes at the end of every game. Roy: The rest of the new boys aren’t quite fit yet and it takes some time to settle in. We should see them by Christmas...they are never seen again.

It seems we're going to play 4-4-2 based on what Eze said he was told by Roy. On that basis, and if Wilf doesn't leave and we don't sign anyone else, then I would go with: Guiata Ward/Ferguson Kouyate/Tomkins Cahill PvA Zaha McArthur Jairo Eze Bentenke Ayew Ayew is capable of dropping back to left-midfield when we're on the defensive with Eze tucking inside. Also, by putting Wilf and Eze on opposing sides we can stretch teams more rather than everything being focused on the left channel (as it usually is).

Like this lineup. Still hoping we get a few more signings in the door, need a winger and proven goal scoring striker badly. Originally posted by taylors lovechild

If Luca can get back to his best I would play him and Jairo in the centre or Jimmy Mac and Luca. I can’t really see Roy going from 3 defensive midfielders to one as that would be a leap too far.

Call me old fashioned but €u#* me, if I never saw Luka 'play' for us again, I would be very happy.

Like that offensive set-up - only hope Benteke is sold when we kick off against Soton. Midfield including Riedewald and Eze sounds promising, throw in that kid from Chelsea and we suddenly have PL quality in that area.

I really can’t see Jairo or Jimmy Mc getting much of a look in next season. Jimmy’s age seemed to be catching up with him last season and his lack of pace was catching him out, same for Jairo, he is decent on the ball but his lack of pace and mobility will stop him from being a regular.

What is worrying is the number of players still on the injury list and apart from PvA who I understand will be back earlier than expected, is anyone aware of return timescales for the others? Indeed, how much of Cahill and Tomkins are we going to see this season? I can see Kouyate spending a good deal of the season in a CB role (or CB reserve on the bench), especially given the current crop of first team squad midfielders we have. I can't see RH NOT playing one of Luka, McArthur and McCarthy in midfield (experience and continuity) and with Eze a certainty to be in the team (IMO) and the new kid from Chelsea likely to start more often than not (or at least that will be intention otherwise I can't see Chelsea having agreed to loan him to us) then only one more midfield place available if we play 4-4-2 or none if Roy goes for other formations.
