He's been reasonable value for us (assuming the £3m price tag was right) and he isn't at the top of my list of players to shunt out. We've already got the (or one of the) smallest first team squads in the EPL, so need to bring in more than we let go.
I want to see more coming in before we let players go. I don't want us to be signing players at the last minute in desperation.

Awful player - did nothing except get booked. I'll drive him to Villa myself.

A player who after the game leaves you scratching your head wondering what exactly he did and was he even on the pitch.

The thing is a lot of fans get caught up in the moment and are far too emotionally attached to what is happening at the time.

During lockdown the whole team have played below expectations for whatever the reasons.

I remember prior to lockdown the groundswell on McCarthy was that he was a valued member of the team / squad and his attributes were well documented through numerous posts.

Now I’m reading posts to the contrary to what many had posted prior to lockdown. Everyone needs to disregard the performances post Bournemouth and remember how players were playing when there was a competitive edge and points to play for during the first 2 of the season.

Guita was terrible during lockdown but that isn’t a reflection on the season As they lost 20 to 30 % of their hunger due to being safe after the Bournemouth game and from the start of pre season and across the season the target was prob 40 points . They will be in the beach mentally once reaching that target if that’s what you been working towards for 9 months .

think we paid £3m upfront, maybe more linked to appearances.

He did ok , but I'd take the £5m and let him go.

Need younger legs in midfield and some creativity and if other 3 are fit he is always on the bench

i think he is decent enough but would take £5m for him tbf. 29 years old out of contract next summer.

if we are looking to lower the average age of the squad it makes sense to sell him.

Only if he's replaced by someone younger, though, and that's by no means guaranteed.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Most of the noise is coming out of connections to Villa, and Birmingham, in general. So there could be something in this.
Palace need to strengthen the squad . But then again if Mc,Carthy hasn’t impressed enough , maybe take the profit and try again.

If he goes, we'll have to replace him - the squad's too thin already.

The whole point of offloading the big earners like Sakho is that the wages freed up could pay for two or more younger players to bulk out the squad. We don't have enough decent options in enough positions as it is. McCarthy's in the one position where we do have abundant cover, so while we don't need another DM, we do need to bring in another player - we saw just how much we struggle with injuries given the average age of our squad already and can't do that during a proper season.

I just don't want to see us sign another DM to replace him. The last thing anyone wants is Etienne Capoue in a Palace shirt, right?

If we could sell him for £5m that's a £2m profit in 1 season. We rarely make profits !!!!

We have Luka, Kouyate, McArthur who can all play the same role.

It's the other type of creative midfielder we are missing.
