Didn't Sheff Utd, Burnley, Leicester and Aston Villa show you that VG was not the best thing since sliced bread? Edited by PZ Eagle (31 Jul 2020 11.23pm) can forgive those minor flaws given the times his actions have saved / won us points

Particularly with a goalkeeper. Just look at De Gea. Some uncharacteristic bad errors in his last few games hints he may be unsettled? My POTY until then. This bollox of 14 day isolation to and from Spain not helping.

I’m definitely not trawling back through loads of threads in an attempt to prove a point, but it’s certainly my perception, based upon your vehement defences of him. In my opinion VG is better than BF.

Guaita is excellent, though not perfect. Who is? He is my MVP candidate, given the importance of defense in Roy's season-long (really, career-long) strategy. VG's few errors proved to be costly precisely because we were so useless at scoring.

Was chosen for The Sun's "best starting XI of the bottom half". No contest there, however if the top half were included there are a few that could come before him.

Interesting statistic (from an article on the BBC website about De Gea), which suggests Guaita has prevented more goals than any other keeper in the EPL this season. "What reflects less favourably on De Gea is Opta's 'goals prevented' figure. This is calculated by taking away the number of goals conceded (excluding own goals and penalties) from the expected goals on target. An expected goal on target is an effort that Opta would ordinarily expect to result in goal. De Gea has faced 32.3 expected goals on target and, after removing own goals and penalties, he has conceded 32. That leaves him with a goals prevented figure of 0.3, which essentially means he has not prevented any goals beyond the saves you would expect the average keeper to make. That figure looks even more ordinary when you compare it to the other Premier League keepers who have played more than 500 minutes this season. Eleven keepers have prevented more goals than De Gea." Goals prevented - top five Guaita (Palace) 10.2

VG was a free signing, sure, he may decline an extension and leave for free next summer, but - who could blame him, that's the name of the contract game... we paid his wages and he helped the team stay in the league, he did his job... I think another season in the premier and a solid display opens more windows for him to possibly enjoy the twilight years.
