It might be out there somewhere but no one ever produces any real evidence. Growing up in Thornton Heath there was a barbershop on London Road which had a stack of 'gentlemen magazines,' which one could peruse (very interesting motoring articles...) whilst waiting for a trim. Many a young lad keen for very regular haircuts. I remember the barber was also able to cut hair whilst smoking a fag.
