Surely as everyone playing on neutral grounds, is it not a level playing field? If neutral grounds aren't used, I'd be interested to find out whether home advantage manifests itself when there is no crowd. In the olden days "knowing the pitch" was said to be part of the home advantage, but pitches now are all top notch. As far as I can see, the main factor by far in home advantage is the crowd.

This was going around on WhatsApp a few days ago. Premier league will be back in June. A sport travel agency that manages logistics for some top teams (spurs, city, wolves, newcastle, rangers to name a few) has been tasked with arranging hotels and travel for 8 weeks starting mid may. All premier league teams will play their remaining games at St. George’s Park, behind closed doors and for TV only. The complex will host 2/3 games a day that will be streamed live. The players will go into isolation mid may at select hotels in the vicinity of st georges and will train at local clubs grounds. They will not be able to see family and friends during the period of games. Each player will be tested regulary to ensure safety and hotels will be locked down for players only. Looks like we are going to have a world cup style June with loads of games to watch and finally a conclusive end to this season. Originally posted by Badger11
I think Alan Brazil has a point he suggested St Georges park which has 11 pitches. If you are using neutral venues with no supporters all you need is a good pitch and training facilities. You could base some of the teams there like a cup competition and have games played at the same time on TV. The advantages would be: - Central location players don't have to travel. Now I don't know St Georges park and it may not be suitable but the principle makes sense an alternative that has been suggested is Australia. Anyway the idea of one central location would be far better than multiple ones. As Parish Said imposing a workload on the police and NHS services is out of the question so a centralise solution would be far better.

The last set of fixtures, will have to be played at 10 different venues all at the same time, as is what happens on the last day of the season, otherwise someone would have an “advantagel if some other team had played their last game, if they are all played at St Georges, it would be like Purley way on a Sunday

Thanks I wasn't aware of that however that could still be fake news but like I said having all the teams in one location has it's advantages. Don't forget they also have to match officials and there's the telly. I suspect that the company that shows the games would prefer them in one location otherwise a bit of a logistical nightmare. Anyway it was just a suggestion which I quite liked.

Firstly, I response to Brighton's comments about removing relegation... what's the point in starting again if you take away the prize of staying up. The St George's Park idea sounds almost feasible, but with 10 rounds of matches to go I dont think the pitches will be able to take 190 games in a month. It would put the entire burden of crowds turning up on one police force and one NHS trust. I dont think that will happen. No issues with playing games behind closed doors, it could ease the burden on the NHS if people stay at home to watch games. The impact of the games on the emergency service could still be monitored on a game by game basis. If people start turning up, then scrap the league. The question is will Liverpool fans behave when they win the title... last years treatment of the Man City team bus shows otherwise. Their track record is particularly poor. Also, will a team looking like staying up or being relegated do something to make sure the league is cancelled. Either way, trial it, if it doesn't work they can say they tried and cancel it.

Second to last sentence is something I reckon could happen. If you are going to need 3 wins at the end for any chance to stay up then betcha suddenly get a dose or just generally dont feel well even if a test is negative. Not going to happen so EPL are going to have multiple court cases to settle for any relegated teams or non promoted teams.

I hope it restarts behind closed doors, wherever they choose, but if they were to just scrap it, i would prefer a penalty shoot out at the ground of the home fixture club, even one player per team, thats two players, two subs, and two goalkeepers, a doctor, referee, and groundsman, thats nine people in total, video it, put all games together that day, and have a two hour match of the day showing it,,,,,,,simples

Picking up on three points S.P comments have the theme that he would not want football matches to suck in ambulance staff or police On this thread it has been said that winning the league and Liverpool supporters could be a bad combination. St Georges is mentioned as having enough pitches, but would the wear of all remaining matches be too much. My view is that with television the venue is immaterial, and a far enough "away" venue will stop fans congregating. This means that Manchester, Liverpool and most London stadiums cannot be used so that St Georges would be supplemented by harder to reach / tucked away venues - 12:30 kick offs at Stoke's 365 Bet Stadium, a Nottingham or Sheffield pitch, Millwall, or a training ground with delivered for the match outside broadcast equipment spring to mind.

A view from the lower leagues. Up until now PL clubs buying players from the EFL paid a premium which is why buying the equivalent foreign player is so attractive. If wages and transfer fees go down because the EFL clubs are desperate I hope that will encourage the PL clubs to buy more home based players. It is also likely that the government will make it harder to sign average foreign players post Brexit. There maybe a silver lining in one of the many clouds.

All a bit of a mess. Seems like they have good ideas and are trying to be organised in making sure this can work with full cooperation and planning from everyone but if the teams cannot decide how to finish the season then what is the point ? Surely you have to have a proper league programme otherwise it turns into a bunch of friendlies ? I certainly don't think playing at home would give us an advantage TBH! Did notice Brighton had: MC Left to play so maybe they just aren't confident of staying up?! Edited by Superhorns3 (04 May 2020 9.44am) Edited by Superhorns3 (04 May 2020 9.45am)
