Can we drop the "Iceland Roy" references. Surely we should be celebrating his achievements with Palace, which so far have been achieved on a comparative shoestring.

100%. I am totally sick of it.
Might as well refer to "own goal Gary", of "open goal miss Wilf". I'm sure both happened sometime in their careers.

Iceland Roy is more about the approach than the result in the one fixture. And just a reminder about the ‘on a shoestring’ comments, we are in the top 20 for wages in global football. On that basis a European appearance one season, or a year without the threat of relegation might be nice.

Totally agree it is pathetic. There is a K*** presenter on Talksport called Andy Goldstein, a London born MU fan, who insists on calling him Woy and always harps back to the Iceland game. Mocking a speech impediment is very unprofessional and am surprised he is allowed to get away with it

True but Roy has endured a shoestring transfer budget over the last year or so. Possibly due to large wage bill that had been put in place before his arrival

Wages are no indication to the mans job, sakho and benteke are 2 of the culprits there and have been unavailable for a lot of his time here.

That is exactly what I meant by shoestring. He inherited most of the current squad, and has been restricted in the transfer market because of past mistakes. In comparative terms he has spent next to nothing (clearly a net positive when you adjust for AWB sale).

I’m not a great lover of Roy’s tactics in fact I would go as far as to say I find someone of his football terminally boring, however what he has done with what he has been given is very impressive. A shoestring budget is indeed what he has had to contend with and little digs aside, ie when he kept mentioning how short we were in certain positions, he has kept his powder dry. He deserves another season with a war chest to buy 4 or 5 players that he wants.

Have a look at Roy's transfer history over the years and I think you will see why nobody in their right mind would give him any spending money. I think Andy Carroll to Liverpool was one of his - if I am not mistaken.
