Therefore there is no reason that some cannot play on until 33/34 at the highest level. Clearly we should be looking for some experience (and the likes of Kouyate and McCarthy seem to be decent additions to the squad) balanced with some younger players. This is where we have struggled and our attempts to do this have pretty much failed every time (Sorloth, Meyer - although some would say the jury is still out on both)

This debate is pointless...!! Unless the American's reengage financially or we are bought out - we are doomed, maybe not this season, but certainly within the next 2. And doomed, maybe beyond the Championship. It's that simple, anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves...!! Sad to say I know but true I am afraid...!!

When you look at our current squad and the lack of young players, and add in our financial problems, it looks very bleak. We can't keep giving the current squad new contract extensions until they retire. We apparently tried to sign a few youngsters in January but who knows if we really would have got the deals done. We don't exactly have a good record in that department lol. We've left it too long now and we're going to need nearly a full squad overhaul in the next few years. Steve, and the investors, have only themselves to blame. Years of over paying in transfers and wages have tied our hands. Roy will only stay if we give him money but then that doesn't make sense if it's only a single year. That's not planning for the future. Steve will want him to stay as we've no money lol. The most infuriating thing is Mr Parish has disappeared. He couldn't wait to show his face when we were planning a new stadium and training ground but were these just smokescreens?

Mr Parish could argue that the decisions they have taken have meant that at present we are in our 7th consecutive season in the PL and perhaps will be in the PL next season. When we were promoted perhaps many supporters would not have predicted we would retain our position in the top-flight for so many seasons. I will readily accept however that with the age of the squad, a re-build is necessary in the near future and without significant financial backing we could be in pitchy seas. The 'Revolving door' is being oiled ready for use.

If we had bought just one young player capable of slotting straight into the first team in each of the last 4 windows (2 years) then we would be in a far better position than we currently are. As others have said, we now need to buy maybe 5 or 6 at the same time. It is not going to be easy.

An point earlier was made that Parish et al would argue that we are in our 7th and looking potentially at our 8th consecutive season in the top flight. Again a valid point but I am sincerely hoping somebody somewhere must have had an inkling to consider a longer term sustainability model as opposed to just implementing short term solutions and relying on some luck - without which we could have easily gone done in numerous seasons! Looks set to come to a head most certainly within the next 18 months. Again, my only hope is that I am understandably very ignorant of how to run a football club despite what I can see from my seat and any plans/conversations going on at the top and that there is a plan there somewhere that for obvious reasons is not made known to hoi polloi like me!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Not really surprising. It’s been discussed for years the mistakes repaired by Plaster-a-Parish would catch up with him and us. Unfortunately it could be really bad, but let’s hope not and something as financially saving as AWB lands at his feet, because without that sale we’d be really stuffed, or planning to use Zaha funds, only to find we’ll spend virtually none of it. More ugly and/or boring seasons of football that as much as I hate and am bored stiff of, is hopefully worth it eventually. The alternative of relegation could be disastrous anyway. Big main stand? What a joke. Edited by Rudi Hedman (18 Feb 2020 4.34pm)
