There is always someone willing to take a punt on a striker, especially one that is English and only 26. One half decent season in the Championship and suddenly he'll be worth £20m.

You only have to look at the likes of Carroll, Welbeck and Sturridge to see clubs will take a gamble.

You don't have to pay any of their wages, it's up to the 2 clubs to agree any loan fee and the % of wages paid by the loanee.

I would loan him out to a Championship club, for the rest of this season and then make a call in the summer. He may have been out for 3 years but in the few appearances he has made this season, he has scored a goal, set up Ayew's worldie and was also in the right place to force Fernandinho to score an OG. Not bad for someone out for 3 years and only a handful of minutes on the pitch.

He still has the ability, the question is purely can he stay fit. A fit Wickham is a very expensive player in this day and age.

Say no more.

I don't often comment on players as I'm sure that I watch different people to many on here and Connor Wickham is one of them as I rather like him and think that if he were given a run of games he would be a very useful goal scoring asset for us

Agreed I would keep him over Benteke

Agreed. If a scout was watching the two and had no idea on their value, or previous transfer fees and current wages, they’d ignore Benteke and watch Wickham. Protecting the asset value of Benteke? What a joke and insult to intelligent supporters. (The Americans don’t want to spend anything and are trying their hardest not to but eventually realise if they don’t, which they’ll get back anyway, we’ll be a championship club and their investment will have a negative return)

I'd keep Wickham over Benteke all day, CB's completely spent at the moment & has been for far too long at huge expense, Wickham's on half the wage & on the rare occasion he does attend he's puts in a shift & looks keen to succeed while CB's just sailing along planning that evenings lavish evening out. Keep Wickham & flog CB as he'll soon be able to leave on a free & we'll then get sod all back

In two and a half seasons there's 6 goals between Benteke and Wickham. Approaching £200k per month for the two of them, that's not what I'd call value for money. The club had the chance to get them off the books and invest that money elsewhere.
It's time to stop thinking about what was, what might have been. All indications are that they will never perform at the level required in the PL again, age and injury have caught up with them. It really is time to plan for the future.

It's been reported that Benteke has turned down the chance of playing in both the French and Turkish leagues so looks like we're stuck with him and unless we pay up his contract there's nothing we can do to ship him off. Also his wages would cripple most championship budgets. Personally I'd stick him in the academy team and leave him there.

Wickham I'd keep as third striker and use for last 10/15 mins. He's aggressive and can bully a tiring defence if he stays fit. Big IF mind.

As soon as Benteke is back from injury Wickham won’t be in the squad.

It's okay I saw him walking into Beckenham this morning and had the presence of mind to stamp on his ligaments!

Unfortunately Wickham was watching and strained his eyes and will be out for a month.

Wickham for me hasn't got the killer instinct, although his pressure made the equaliser, that should of been his goal, just a gut and get in front of fernandinho. Get him out on loan and get his value up.

Tbf Fernandinho has the mettle to get in front of the strongest players, even at the age of 34. That's why he is in the defense. Wickham should be sent out on loan though, with his own paramedic.

Hes coming back from a serious injury that would have been a career ender not so long ago . That he is now coming off the bench and making a contribution to our points tally is all credit to him and our medical staff

And some want to write him off?

Probably best pushing Tosun for a starting place for the rest of the season , a decent injury free pre season and we will have a good player in our squad next year .

The only way Id let him out on loan is if we bring in another striker in the next week or so .

A little bit silly saying this considering what Wickham has been doing since he returned from injury.
