Surely too much to do in Jan to shift so many out but come the summer we will likely have Wilf, Benteke and Sakho off the books which must be &350k PW

We did have a very strict wage structure in place for a long time but that was broken in order to sign Cabaye and that was a can of worms (understandably). I think we agreed to "smash" our wage cap and offer him £60k a week which kinda seems peanuts in hindsight! I may be wrong on the exact figure but the point stands.

..Cabaye flattered to deceive, much preferred Puncheon who also took much much better free kicks and corners etc, waste of money.

Not a lot wrong on todays showing.
Just need to find or invent the holy grail of football. The 20 goal a season man.

You think? Personally I reckon we desperately miss him. He was a combative playmaker- something our often turgid midfield is missing

Totally agree, I think Luka misses having him alongside.

I thought Cabeye was a pretty good signing and we certainly do miss him, although his injuries were catching up with him at the end.

We need to be re-arranging our squad in the summer not January. By all means if we get an acceptable offer for Benteke, Meyer or Sahko (ie the three high wage earners who we barely see on the pitch) then great, but in reality no one in their right mind will take them off our hands. Therefore in Jan I suspect we will get the usual striker loan until the end of the season and perhaps a right back if Ward is still having injury issues. I really can’t see us doing anything more than that.

Sounds about right. The only caveat is a takeover - and that would have to be now to make any difference. January is when we usually, at least try to, rectify our summer shambles.

That's the way I see it as well.

I reckon we could fairly easily shift Sakho for reasonable dough. Benteke making noises about Euro 2020 so perhaps would accept a pay cut for regular games. Meyer I don’t think we’d be able to move on. A bad purchase in retrospect.

Sakho is 30 in February, he has only played 3 games since February this year due to injuries and if these persist preventing him from playing many games this season, I suspect he wouldn't command as much in the summer as perhaps many think.

In terms of a clear-out, if we get relegated this of course is the likely outcome.
