I couldn’t agree with this thread less.

The lack of young players / legs, intensity and ability to beat a man and lack of balance in the squad is our biggest problem.

100% agree, is it the manager or the board ?? Or are we comfortable as a squad with no pressure?

Don’t know but suspect the manager is given fairly limited options and that ultimately he has to make do. I’ve not seen us seriously linked recently with a fast player.

Not sure of the strategy behind signing Meyer for example. Adds depth to the squad but expensive and has no pace or strength.

We’ve plenty of similar players who are older and better at what he does.

Van Aanholt is much maligned but for all his defensive weakness can cover the ground quickly and get us playing in the opponent’s half.

I tend to agree with this summary. The lack of pace in an ageing squad is really quite noticeable now. Even if the ball was moved quicker there are players who quite frankly can't keep up. Hodgson seems to prefer the stodgy slow type. I also suspect a lack of peak fitness levels, for which there can be no excuse.

So who would you drop to replace them H?

I’d bring Sakho in for Tomkins, so we have a left and right footer at the back. Sakho can also pass the ball even if he gives you two or three heart attacks in every match.
I’d rest Luka and play JimmyMac who was excellent when he stepped in for Luka’s suspension.
McCarthy to replace Kouyarte as again he can pass the thing.
Finally, I’d give Camarasa a go to see if he is the playmaker people say he is.
All very unlikely!

It's all Schlupps fault. The bloke is the stuff of nightmares. When he is gone then all our problems will go away.

Roy's working with what he has. Too many central midfielders which lack creativity, so a stubborn side seems to be the go-to tactic to grind out results and keep us afloat. Don't see any point in changing manager unless we invest in players to address our lack of goals.

Also happy to see Benteke given another chance as he seems to link up better with the wingers than Ayew.

The last few games our passing going forward has been awful and most disappointing.
The number of times passes have gone astray or directly to opposition players or have been passed behind the player thus requiring the player to wait for the arrival of the ball and allowing opposition defenders to get back in position has been pitiful in my opinion.
It seems to me that the basics of football skills are being able to control the ball and pass, not just accurately but intelligently.
Leicester are a perfect example of good passing skills which enables them to move forward and attack at pace.
I believe if this important aspect of our game improved by 50 percent the number of goals scored would also increase significantly.
Sort it out Roy!.

...the last few games

..bit unfair, he can score and has done so in many important games, moving forward has some great pace and gets into good positions but, is prone to bad control under pressure and giving the ball away and can at times then be a nightmare ..but he has had some great classic moments and you know it lol
