It's difficult not to agree.

I don't know when it became public knowledge that City were setting up like that.

On the other hand it would be grossly unfair on Ayew if Benteke started. And playing both against City was never going to be an option.

This weekend's game also looks like an opportunity for Benteke....

Pretty much agree but it’s not that unfair Neillo if you are picking the best team to beat the opposition. I think that under the circumstances Ayew would also have understood. Biggest problem for us as ever is the lack of a vastly alternative plan B, as unfortunately it tends to manifest itself as very similar to plan A.

It's easy in retrospect to say Bentenke should have started, but given he has been useless for a long time it would also have raised most eyebrows if he had started. Ayew has earned his place and has actually been holding the ball up well, something that Bentenke no longer seems so capable of. If we'd hit long balls to Bentenke he would probably have just flicked them to no one. I think we need Andros to start so we have more of an outlet than just Wilf, as Schlupp despite his pace does not do as much direct running. I still also wish that we'd get to see Camarassa, but this is also looking increasingly unlikely (for whatever reason).

Just to add that in our last 25 home games going back to the start of last season, we've only scored in the first half of five of those.

Roy’s tactics are always the same - condense the game down to 30 minutes by stifling play in the first 60 - that’s why you rarely see a tactical substitution before 60 minutes . That’s why the football is so boring !
With a striker like Benteke who has just had his contract extended Roy should have a plan B otherwise what’s the point of retaining him?
As for upsetting Ayew that’s ridiculous- at this level and on these wages players know the score - do you see Aguero moaning when Jesus is selected or vice versa?

Thought we missed a trick on Saturday by being so predictable
Watched the game from the upper Holmesdale this week and it was apparent we had many chances to play a quick long ball out from Henessey / defense behind their back four but chose to wait until City had reset themselves. For goalkicks we may as well just point to where it’s going to land and wait for it to come back.

City were set up to press against a team that would play out from the back – we didn’t do this once (apart from when Luka messed up) but also didn’t play out long balls quick enough to cause them any problems.
Wilf was stood around in open space many a time.

Mix it up a bit and get the opposition thinking

Really frustrating to watch from above

Benteke has been dreadful for best part of two years and the idea that we we should have dropped Ayew after scoring a last minute winner at West Ham is obtuse.

I wasn’t sure whether I was more astounded by Ederson’s athleticism or the fact that Benteke managed to hit the target with a half chance.
