Might be criticised for saying this but I think it’s time to sell Sakho whilst he still has value. This would free up a high wage. In Tomkins, Cahill, Kelly and Dann we have sufficient cover for the time being and can bring in a younger replacement in the summer. Sakho is on decent strikers money so I know where I would rather spend those wages. another midfielder?

He has such quality so I am eating a little humble pie on this matter. But not a big portion because my complaint was not about his quality but rather where it left us, with an old central defensive line, mostly lacking in speed. We'd have been really caught out without him so a great deal for the short term - but where will we be in two years time? Every single centre back approaching or in their mid 30s?

Cahill and Tomkins would probably be the best pairing, if Tomkins can remain fit. I would put Kelly to RB, he deserves a place.

One of my best mates follows Chelsea home and away.. Not that he's any type of expert but when we signed him he told me that he will do a quality job for us and couldn't believe with there transfer ban they hadn't offered him at least another years contract.. With how shocking, according to him Zouma has been he's gutted Cahill is with us.. Appears to be very much Chelsea's loss is our gain
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

He’s been out for ages and it seems like he won’t. And, I agree with you, sell Sakho whole he’s still worth it, but that basically leaves us with Tomkins, Cahill and Kelly, at centre back.....................

No complaints about Cahill, I was happy we signed him but was concerned about his wages like many. Both he and Kelly were very solid on Saturday but agree that Tomkins-Cahill as the best pairing at CB. We need a specialist RB, but, yes Kelly could do the job in the interim.

If somebody had said to me we've signed Gary Cahill for £8M for the next two seasons and he's playing for nothing I would have been more than happy. Essentially it's the same thing.

If Sakho stays fit I would still say he is our best CB, but like Tomkins he seems incapable of doing so. Tomkins is a better compliment to either Cahill or Sakho by virtue of the fact he is quicker. Kelly has done a good job at filling in, but he doesn't command the box as well. Our defensive record this season points to our strength in the defensive middle, with Kouyate, I think, also making a big difference. I think many people's surprise when we signed Cahill was largely down to the fact we failed to sign a single full-back, rather than a question of his quality. He has fitted in really well and barring injury I expect he'll keep his place even when we have our full complement of centre-backs.

was watching todays match on some canadian stream and the commentators said something very interesting...it was something along the lines of “since cahill has joined the club he has been such a good example in the training pitch, if they are about to finish a session and the last passing/possession drill isnt perfect, gary makes the squad do the drill again and again til its perfect as he feels you cant end a session in a negative note” born winner...born leader. he doesnt need the armband he does all this naturally.
