I think we’ve paid so much for Wickham's wages and recuperation that we’re just praying that he can prove his fitness enough to be sold for an actual transfer fee. Possibly similar with Benteke. I think we’re still desperately hoping that he finally goes on a scoring run and he would actually be saleable. Good money after bad it may be but I think transfer fees are so high these days that it’s probably seen as worth the gamble. I'm just guessing. It's only a rumour that Benteke is being offered a new contract anyway. Lets hope it is just a rumour but if he is offered one then hopefully he will turn it down as he probably wants to start afresh somewhere else.

You say that but, bad as he’s been, he’s still a squad player for Belgium (who are number 1 in FIFA rankings) – it would only take a passable season in this league for him to be worth £10m-£20m. Maybe more. That’s how mad the transfer market is.

At this rate unless Zaha gets fouled in the box and we get some penalties (our main source of 'goal income' last season) we won't score many, UNLESS the midfield is sorted and we find someone who is happy holding the ball, bringing it forward and inter-acting with Ayew, then we might have prospects. Perhaps we have in Camarasa, working in tandem with Meyer, a possibility? Trouble is the manager relies on donkeys like Schlupp, Kouyate and the captain in his 'system' and won't change or experiment. Better to lose 6-5 (like at Swansea) and go down playing decent football than getting relegated with 0-4 scorelines as seems the likelihood at the moment. We let thoughtful players like Bannon and intelligent forwards like Gayle go. Sure, some will say neither is good enough for the PL, but what we have now is no better. For a start we must try Camarasa.

Not on a free of course, and at the moment he costs us around 5m in wages per year. Even on half that the gamble surely is madness as it would pay for a similar gamble on say 3 promising youngsters or lower league players. You can gamble Originally posted by Beastie

The time to really start setting your pants is if we lose 0-4 to Newcastle or Norwich etc. I don’t think anyone would disagree that more creativity is required but there’s also the small matter of who is going to put the ball in the net - Ayew has started well but there’s nobody else

Since we're still totally dependent on Wilf, it depends on whether he starts playing to his best
