I think this isn't necessarily a bad thing. The problem of Uber is that its led to people I know who make their living as Black Cab drivers and taxi drivers, seeing a large drop in income - Because they have higher costs than your standard uber driver (licence, nice car, training etc).

I don't think there is anything wrong with protecting the income of workers in the UK. Problem of a free market of largely unregulated drivers from Uber contains a cost that isn't seen (to other cab drivers and risks).

In answer to the OP, yes, I think this is what you get for trying to screw things down to the cheapest price. It is similar with Sports Direct and Amazon, you want things as cheap as possible, then the staff have to pay by working through the night, zero hours contracts, companies not paying their fair share of taxes etc

Those $1000 new apple phones are made by people earning pennies an hour, who can't even go to the toilet whilst at work.

It is what the world has become

The conditions that, in the UK, led to the rise of the Labour Party, Trade Unions, Socalism and Liberalism have simply been exported to the third world, by the same corporate entities that thrived on suffering in the 1900s

I worked out that Ryanair are a dogs*** company nearly 20 years ago, from a single journey.

I wouldn't fly with them if it was free.

I note that there have been concerns raised about the drivers being self-employed and without company rights but is this not the same for a plethora of taxi firms throughout the country ?

There are reports that they let drivers work without getting their CRB check back, they have failed to report what is entering the 100s of sexual assaults by their drivers.
Illegal touting, flouting of many TFL rules.
Andv let's not forget the help with lobbying from Osbourne and Cameron,I think I am right in saying the old chief executive of uber GB is somehow related to Cameron,or close family friend.
f*** em do it right or not at all.

So how would you like it if you trained for years ( with no pay) to become a London taxi driver, for some c***s to come along with no training, and to a certain extent no comebacks.
And you see what you trained for all those years of struggling to get your badge.... disappear.

All because you want to save a couple of quid.

Indeed. Same as when schools employ unqualified teachers.

That said the market rules. People are skint, their gonna go for the cheaper option.

Yes but there are plenty of people that would so you're missing the point

If everyone valued good service and were prepared to pay extra for the greater good we would have such problem

I'm fortunate enough to have several overseas holidays a year and this year flew with Monarch, Jet2, Easyjet and Ryanair and can't say that there was much difference between any of them in terms of service

That's exactly how I feel, I'd rather pay an extra £100-200 to avoid flying with them, to be honest I'd rather not go than fly with them.

One of two airlines I refuse to fly with, the other is Monarch.
