Not fit to tune Rory Gallagher's guitar! quote=Farawayeagle;3192063] That's a bit harsh. I saw both of them live many times and they were very different musicians with mutual respect for each other. Rory is reported to having being influenced by the John Mayall "Bluesbreakers" album which Eric played on. Eric has been quoted as saying Rory was an influence on his return to the blues after his pop/rock period. Rory was a superb technical musician who knew his Stratcaster's capabilities inside out. He was also an incredibly energetic performer who had a great physical connection with his audience. I saw him once once in Tokyo and I was knackered just watching him. It was an energy he always had going back to his days in Taste. One of my all time favourite bands in my teenage years growing up in Northern Ireland. I was also lucky enough to see a young Gary Moore emerge with Skid Row and develop into one of the all time greats. Clapton was a completely different musician. He was more into tone and feel and was strongly influenced by a smaller range of the American blues artists such as the Kings. -- Albert, Freddie and B.B. He was also visually boring on stage. Even in his Cream days. But his playing style was unique and truly sublime. I was lucky to see him with John Mayall, Cream and solo. He was also a more versatile songwriter than Rory who was a master of the blues. Clapton straddled Blues/Rock/Pop and little soul influence. Rory and Eric were equals in their own fields. We should just be happy to enjoy their rich catalogues of superb music. Edited by Farawayeagle (24 Jun 2017 12.33am)

Seen Eric many times and always been blown away by his quitar playing - his tone is unique. But the best gig I've seen was him and Stevie Winwood about 5 years ago and their Blind Faith repertoire was breath-taking. Stunning stuff.
