Surrey to win tomorrow. It will probably be won by the team that wins the toss and elects to field first

Burns started life in Hants second eleven. Next season Surrey will have Stoneman, Borthwick, Foakes, Burns, Batty and Footitt in their team who all started their cricketing livee at other counties. Burns is Surrey born and bred and played a few games for Hants seconds at the same time as he played a few games for Surrey seconds. Batty was born in Yorkshire, played one match for them in 1997 and was released and signed for Surrey in 1998. 3 seasons at Surrey and a few seasons for Worcester before returning to the Oval. Surrey's team next season will probably be from Burns Plus another overseas player I presume as I doubt Sangakarra will stay. Durham are in financial trouble and Surrey were able to make those 2 a better offer. I agree that it's a shame for Durham but they are likely to progress their careers faster here if they do well. They won't be the only players to leave them over the winter, unfortunately. But that's 11 from 16 who have only ever played for Surrey plus Batty who played one game for Yorks before being released and snapped up. I agree that the team that bowls first will probably win, given the state of the weather!

They won't be the only players to leave them over the winter, unfortunately. Interesting article that sniffs around the edges of their financial problems without going into great enough depth. Durham were promised membership to the exclusive club of first class counties conditional on them building a ground suitable for staging internationals with the promise that ECB would give them internationals to stage there to help defray the costs. With the exception of one Ashes tests they have been given tests against the less popular opposition and to make it worse they tend to be early on in the season when the weather tends to be less reliable. To make matters worse the ECB scheduling of games has been pretty poor with this year's game at Durham following on a few days after the game at Headingly when they are both relying on pulling spectators in from the same cachment area. It isn't all the ECB's fault though as the Riverside ground was built in a dreadful area as far as transport links go. Hopefully the exodus of players has finished for this season as the only remaining player out of contract at the end of the season is Mark Wood who is likely to remain with Durham if his central contract is renewed but who won't be able to afford him if it's not. Whilst I'm born and bred in Surrey / Sussex I was living in Newcastle when Durham became a First Class county and I got caught up in the razzamatazz as for a while the cricket club took up more media space than the exploits of the footie clubs, especially when Botham was signed up. I don't get to see them up North but I live in easy reach of Edgbaston and Trent Bridge so can catch up with them on their travels

It quite often happens with these late in the season finals. The side batting first often faces overcast conditions and the remains of overnight moisture on the ground. I also heard that there was some criticism that the batting strip being used today was rather worn.

Being a big bears fan loved it today.Must admit at 45-0 Jason Roy and Steve Davies looked like hanging around for quite a while so I was a bit shocked when Surrey were skittled out for 136.Good all round display from the Bears though. The one downside was the fiver for a pint

Lord's is the only international cricket venue in the world where spectators can bring alcohol into the ground. A spectator may bring alcoholic drinks into the Ground in one of the following descriptions and quantities: (I) under 6% ABV – 2 pints (1136 ml); or (II) between 6% and 18% ABV – 75cl. So take two pints with you.
Too late now of course... but one for the future.... please be aware that 2 tins of stella fits nicely inside an empty Pringles canister. Take a picnic coolbox with you full of "Pringles". I've used this method many times to overcome the alcohol restriction at Lords.
