Yes went quite a few time, never had much luck with the birds there.
Palace had an end of season party there one year and I did pull a bird who thought I was David Payne, one of our players at the time.
Preferred the streatham Locarno tbh, the bird there weren't so fussy!!!

And the Stork Club in the afternoons, always a good place to pull a mummy. They were always in their 40s and 50s knew what they wanted with no strings attached.

Ohh fckin happy days, now I need weeks notice to get it up.

Sir James Hird Flag Mount Martha 25 Aug 16 7.17am

I remember the Orchid, but in the early 60's just down the road I recall was a coffee bar called The Olive Tree. Me and my mate Roger had a a bit of a blue there once, removing an unsavoury character for the local proprietor before he wrecked the joint. Happy days.

Olive Tree was by the bus garage in S. Croydon. Folky types like Ralph McTell (local chap) used to play there.

A few years ago I bought a superb local book "ROCK-IN' and around CROYDON" It gives all the dates of artistes appearing at venues large and small in the area between 1960 & 1980, as well as articles of local bands, singers, etc. Written by Chris Groom, I got mine in Waterstones. I expect the libraries might have a copy.

Used to frequent Tiffany's/cinderella's in late 70's - once saw Queen play there in what I think was called The Crazy Tour of London. Small venue for a big group - upclose and personal. I seem to remember a Brut 33 machine in the loos that sprayed you with about a gallon of the stuff for some small amount that I can't remember.

Does it say much about the Cartoon?

Hoof Hearted 25 Aug 16 12.24pm

My two elder sisters used to go the Orchid at Purley pretty much every weekend in the 60's/70's.

I liked heavy rock so went to gigs in London/Croydon/Sutton or pubs with live bands. Saw Quo in Wallington Town Hall too.

Can't imagine The Who playing at the Orchid?
