Didn't Team GB have some fun at the other team's expense at London 2012?

I seem to recall that the same mutterings were heard there, as to how we had become so successful 'overnight'...... and when they brought the bike wheels in in bags, it started so much speculation that the rumour was put about by Team GB that we had designed a perfectly round wheel and it was this giving us the advantage

That was the French again. Dave Brailsford told them we had especially round wheels but he was just taking the mick. Their media however went full blown on the theory.

Clickbait. Another columnist who writes to wind people up. Best ignored.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

That is right. Purely to wind up the French they leaked a story that by using lasers their wheels were rounder than everyone elses. It worked too, which is where some of the sour grapes comes from.

The track team and Team Sky waste no opportunity to rub their opponents noses in their success - which on one level is a joy to behold but resulted in 2014 other teams refusing to give a Sky rider water when he was struggling on a mountain and ended up missing the time limit and hence was disqualified.

A very professional (and frankly very wealthy) outfit, the cycling team

Very unfair - Simon Jenkins is a very interesting columnist, certainly the best Tory writer in the papers but independent minded.

They even take their own matresses and pillows etc on tour. Nothing is left to chance.

I've never heard of him. He sounds like sad b****** from that article.

Take the national pride out of the Olympics and you end up with a bulk-standard athletics meet, that hardly anyone watches.

Your not supposed to agree with columnists all the time. In some ways that the point of them. Even if you don't agree with them it is no bad thing having opinions challenged.

He's just using antagonistic language, that's not good journalism.

Soviet, communist, Hitler - I think he had a word bingo challenge myself.

He seems to be taking a swipe at it all because for one day, out of the whole games so far, the BBC moved the news instead of the Olympic coverage.
