He'll go the EEA route, as he's said he will today, to settle the economy and say we'll look into how we can address the 'free movement' issue when we're on an even keel. He'll then do nothing and start making the odd promise about it again come the next general election. No referendum next time though of course. I think you're mostly correct here (candidate-wise). I think having May lead it would be a major olive branch given she was an (albeit muted) remainer. I don't know what her take on what position we adopt (indeed Boris is heavily leaning towards an EEA / "Flexit" option). I'm very sure she was about as enthused with the Remain position as Corbyn was. May to lead, with cabinet positions for Boris, Gove, IDS, Fox and (TBH, I think she deserves it) Gisela Stuart.

Good points on May. I definitely think they will prefer an EEA option, which unfortunately for many would very likely include 'freedom of movement'. EU countries may strangely come to the rescue of hopes to curb free movement though, in that they would all have to approve our EEA membersip anyway, something that isn't in itself a given.

May and Johnson are the only real candidates. Gove doesn't want to lead. Even if he did, despite being a relatively intelligent articulate man, he finds it impossible to actually be likeable. BoJo wants the top job, it's the only reason he switched to Brexit. And I suspect he'll get it. May still home sec. I don't know where Michael Gove fits in as he seems destined to pi$$ off everyone in existence. Hammond will probably get a high profile role.

I think people have had enough of empty promises. Yes, but the tradition of not having to worry about it once they vote you out of power isn't that big a concern career wise, if you've been a prominent cabinet member.

Boris Johnson looked like he knew exactly what he was doing when responding to the resignation of David Cameron, and has clearly employed some PR consultants and speech writers. He wants it, but the question maybe can he win it. I can't help but think there are some skeletons in his closet. He's already had a few exposed.

If it's EEA membership, I'm afraid it would include free movement, but I'm not sure if there could be limitations e.g. EU migrants needing to have a job lined up.

It has to be Boris for a slightly reverse reason. He clearly has to have a top job in the Government, but I'm not sure he's Chancellor, Home or Foreign Secretary material - so the only top role left is Chief Exec, which he has done before. Someone once said to me that Boris Johnson is not a politician he is an "Act". But under that bufoonery is a highly intelligent and articulate chap.

I've met him a few times, as he was MP for where I grew up and has some roots around there. He is exceptionally intelligent, well educated, but articulation isn't his strong point, that said we were mostly talking about the classical theatre and the Illiad.

I'm a member, if it's May vs Boris it's May all the way. She was a Remainer but an extremely reluctant one, her speech on immigration at the last party conference was very pro-control. She kept her head down in the campaign for a reason.

For me Boris Johnson is the Ian Holloway of politics. I really like him and can't wait for him to open his mouth but at times I've been a bit worried about what might come out.

Very simple: Rupert Murdoch wants Boris. So that's exactly what Murdoch (and the country) will get.
