I don't want to sound like a socialist but if you're required to work through your lunch, the company likely wants to pay too few people. We've all been there. Edited by johnfirewall (11 May 2016 4.58pm)

My friend is a postman and religiously takes his lunch break. He then runs out of time to deliver about a quarter of his route, and ends up taking four bags of mail back per day. The Royal Mail rely on you working through your lunch break and the routes are far too big, so good on him I say, and yes I would say that even if I didn't get my post delivered.

Always used to take and was allowed an hour when living in the UK. I worked for an alarms firm and was always on my own so no eyes spying me. Here in Finland its usually half an hour and people eat lunch at 11am - inbreds that they are !

When I first got to the USA. My first job was still Carpentry. You had a 30 minute tea break in the morning an hour for lunch and a further 30 minute tea break in the afternoon. After a couple of days of doing this I approached the foreman to complain. 'What's the problem' he asked? Well for starters I want to be able to start at 6am, secondly I'm not interested in two 30 minute Tea breaks (Maybe 15 minutes in the morning)and I certainly don't want 60 minutes for lunch, maybe 30 minutes & knock off half an hour earlier. Oh & I'm sick of carrying other blokes who are on the same money as me & doing half the work, is there any chance of price work. The foreman an Irishman said it was all down to The unions & that given the chance He'd sack 70% of the workforce & keep the rest working on price. I jacked after 3 days !!

I have an 8.5 hour shift incorporating a mandatory half an hour break that nobody ever takes. Essentially the greedy b******s have found a way of getting us to work half an hour a day extra for free. Nearly always means I just miss the train back to Whitstable and have to wait another hour.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

My life is one long lunch break these days. I retired 12 years ago at 50 and me and my faithful doggy friends do what the fcuk we like all day, every day.
It's a tough life, but someone has to do it. Attachment: Milo2.jpg (569.39Kb)

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |
